Tāmaki filmmakers: You’re invited to the 2026 Meet the Guilds Screen Industry Mixer!

Join us next Tuesday at the Morningside Tavern for drinks and nibbles - a chance to see what the guilds are all about, meet new people and put faces to names.

We are excited to announce the two short films selected for Rainbow Shorts 2026.

Rainbow Shorts is our inaugural programme that offers the support and framework for two teams with q***r writers and directors to make a short film that will shine on the big screen internationally. Applicants had to have a script and the key creative roles of writer, director and producer confirmed.

The two selected teams will each receive:
-a production budget of NZ$40,000
-an Executive Producer and advisors to support them through the development, production and post-production of their short film

We received 39 applications, and 10 projects were shortlisted for further consideration. Selectors were looking for films that are likely to have success at international film festivals, with a script that is ready to be made and a team with the skills to carry out the vision they have for the film.

The two short films selected for Rainbow Shorts 2026 are:

Molletes
drama/coming of age - live action
Writer/Director - Mirene Castelltort
Producer - Jennifer Onyeiwu
Logline: At her first Kiwi Christmas, eight-year-old Jimena is caught between protecting her Mexican culture and rejecting it to fit in.

Rams
drama/dance - live action
Writer/Director - Ryan Bradley
Writer/Producer - Hattie Adams
Logline: A boys rugby team navigate the ritual and carnage of changing room culture following a championship win.

Alongside bespoke craft mentorship to support the filmmakers in writing and directing, both films will also be supported by Proud Voices on Screen board member Thomas Coppell (Big Girls Don’t Cry), who will serve as an Executive Producer for the 2026 films.

We are proud to announce the participants of our inaugural Feature Writers Incubator - an eight-month programme for q***r writers with a feature film script.

Participants receive a grant of NZ$15,000 as well as workshops, script consultants and additional story support. An additional grant was also created for 2026 called the Handspring Grant to support a writer towards their next draft. The recipient of the Handspring Grant will receive a grant of $3,000 and a script consultation.

The recipients of the Feature Writer’s Incubator 2026 and their projects are:

Sloane Hong - 瘞坎 [Immolate]

Victoria Lewis - Eden

The recipient of the Handspring Grant 2026 and their project is:

Six participants have been selected for the Q***r Producers Incubator 2026 - a four-month programme to support and upskill six emerging q***r-identifying producers who have at least one project in development. Participants attend a two-day intensive workshop in May and then receive one-on-one mentorship.

The initiative offers an opportunity for q***r producers to learn their craft in a q***r-led space.�

Applications for our brand new initiative Rainbow Shorts close tomorrow!

Two teams with q***r writers and directors will be selected to make their short films in 2026-2027.

The teams will be granted a production budget of $40,000, and will be supported by EPs to help them develop, make and deliver their short film.

Applications close tomorrow - Tues 23 April 2026, 5pm.

Applications close tomorrow - Tues 14 April 5pm - for Q***r Producers Incubator 2026! 🌈

This two-day intensive is for producers who identify as q***r and have at least one project in development that is a feature, doco, series or web series. Participants also receive one-on-one mentoring after the workshop.

We are encouraging all q***r emerging producers to apply. The application form is not super long!
Applicants need a project in development, but don’t need a lot of experience with producing to be eligible. The programme suits emerging producers who have aspects of producing they want to learn more about before they progress, or those moving into producing from other roles.
