The state of local emergency for the Nelson Tasman region has expired. The region has now moved to a local transition period to support the recovery from the recent severe weather and flooding.

MetService New Zealand has updated the updated the times for the Yellow Heavy Rain Watch which is now valid from 12pm - 11pm Thursday 3rd.

Good morning Auckland. We are unfortunately going to see more rain later this week and our friends at MetService New Zealand have issued a Yellow Heavy Rain Watch and Yellow Strong Wind Watch for Thursday 3rd July that covers the Auckland region including Great Barrier.

As of right now, they're predicting a band of heavy rain possible for all parts of the region as the front moves through during the afternoon, with potential localised downpours of 25-35mm/h. If these downpours eventuate, it could lead to surface flooding given how saturated the ground currently is with previous weeks rains. Alongside this we may see strong winds widely across the region, with gusts in exposed places up to 100km/h.

If there are any drains or gutters that need clearing out around your property, make sure to do it over the next couple of days before the rain settles in.

Here are a few simple ways to be prepared:
✅ Follow MetService New Zealand for the latest weather updates.
✅ Plan your journey with NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi - Auckland, avoid low-lying areas and drive cautiously if you do need to travel.
✅ Secure outdoor furniture, bins and loose items in your back yard.
✅ Check and clear your drains and gutters of leaves to prepare for rain.
✅ Report blocked stormwater drains and flooding to Auckland Council on 09 301 0101.
✅ Report fallen trees on public land to the council using our online Report a problem tool.
✅ Check your local Emergency Readiness and Response Plan for more tips on how to be prepared: https://www.aucklandemergencymanagement.govt.nz/your-local/local-boards/
✅ If you or your whānau are at risk, phone 111 immediately.

🟠🟡 Update to Severe Weather Warnings and Watches

The Severe Thunderstorm Warning over Northland has now been replaced by a Heavy Rain Warning, and an additional Heavy Rain Watch has been issued for Auckland and northern Waikato.
