Fashion, music, laughter, community, what a way to wind down in Sierra Leone!

As volunteers and national crew in Sierra Leone wrap up the field service, they hosted a fashion show at the HOPE Center for patients and caregivers to enjoy an evening of joy together.

The crowd cheered on as patients and caregivers strutted their finest streetwear and African threads across the stage.

Two kids. Big smiles. A ship full of people who showed up to say: you matter.
Healing begins with a touch, and we're honoured to be that touch for thousands of patients each year.

For years, people in their village knew them as “the family with bowed legs.”

There was pain and mockery for Fenitra, Rolland, Rody, and their family

Today, after life-changing surgery on the , they’re writing a new story for their family.

Sometimes healing changes more than a body; it changes what people believe is possible.

Before the first patients arrive and surgeries begin, there is always a moment to pause and pray.

Recently, crew from the Africa Mercy gathered at the HOPE Center (Hospital Outpatient Extension Center) in Madagascar for an evening of worship and prayer, lifting up the patients who will soon walk through its doors and the teams preparing to serve them.

In just a few days, this space will welcome patients beginning their surgical journeys. Until then, we pray for peace, strength, and hope for every life that will be impacted this field service.

Kiwi Volunteer Shoutout: Josh Scott 🇳🇿👨‍⚕️

Meet Josh, one of our long-term Kiwi volunteers serving on board the Global Mercy since the beginning of 2025!

Josh has recently made another big decision to extend his service with Mercy Ships through to July 2027.

“I’ve moved into the role of Pre-Op Manager on board, which is an exciting growth opportunity.” In this role, Josh helps patients as they prepare for surgery, making sure they are able to get to the ship and are fit and well before their surgery.

For Josh, the heart behind extending is about knowing where God has called him for this season. “It’s clear that there is more work to be done, and God is equipping me to continue to do this good work here,” he shares. 🙏

“Stepping into the new role is stretching me in so many ways, but the impact I have in this role I know is big. I’m trusting that the Lord will continue to provide all of my needs so that I can continue to serve Him here.”

We’re so grateful for Josh’s faithfulness and heart to serve! If you’d like to partner with Josh as he continues to transform lives on Mercy Ships, you can give here through the link: https://mercyships.org.nz/volunteer/josh-scott/ 🙌

“People would stare at me as I walked to school,” Lucinda shared. “Kids would make fun of me and call me names.”

She faced rejection everywhere she went and often felt ashamed because of the tumor on her face.

Everything changed when a neighbor told Lucinda’s mother that Mercy Ships had helped her own daughter with the same condition.

Lucinda came aboard the and underwent successful surgery.

Now, Lucinda is looking forward to returning home and back to school with renewed confidence.
