IDFNZ Kids Foundation

IDFNZ Kids Foundation We are a not for profit organisation dedicated to supporting New Zealanders of all ages diagnosed with Primary Immune Deficiencies (PID).

IDFNZ is dedicated to provide New Zealand families struggling with chronic illness relating to Primary Immune Deficiency (PID). IDFNZ was first incorporated in 1989 and is proud to have served this section of the New Zealand special needs community for over 25 years. There are over one hundred individual PID conditions, some of the better known are: Severe Combined Immune Deficiency, Common Variable Immune Deficiency, IgA deficiency, IgG subclass deficiency, Transient hypogammaglobulinaemia, Chronic Granulatous Disease, Complement deficiencies, Hyper IgE syndrome,Di George Syndrome.Plus - plus many other related immune complex conditions. The patients affected by these conditions face ongoing health crisis due to repeated, long lasting infections, which may be life threatening. Long term organ damage as a result of infection can lead to other health complications. Treatment may involve repeated hospitalization, ongoing antibiotics, plasma (immunoglobulin) transfusions, bone marrow transplantation etc. Ongoing health issues can adversely affect a patients education, social and financial status, as well as impacting on the whole family. The KIDS Foundation is our youth section of the Foundation, specifically supporting New Zealand's chronically ill children affected by PID conditions (including PID bone marrow transplant and plasma IVIG/ SCIG recipient patients). In addition, KIDS Foundation also supports chronically ill liver transplant, gastro and bowel transplant children facing secondary immune problems. KIDS Foundation works closely with a wide network of community groups supporting chronically sick children facing ongoing health issues, with the aim of improving quality of life for child patients and siblings. Membership of IDFNZ and KIDS Foundation is FREE as we recognize that the price to be eligible to join as patient members is high enough. IDFNZ is a member of IPOPI (the International Patient Organization for Primary Immune Deficiencies), and a founder member of IDFAPA (Immune Deficiencies Foundation Asia Pacific Alliance). IDFNZ is a fully registered with the New Zealand Charities Commission as New Zealand Charity CC24570.

Hands Around the Beehive — A National Day of Remembrance for Health on Wednesday 21 October 2026.

This is not a protest. It is a peaceful day of remembrance, solidarity and hope, recognising the importance of a health system that supports people, whānau and communities across Aotearoa, organised by UCAN.

An opportunity to acknowledge the importance of health workers supporting our patient members.

UCAN are inviting communities across Aotearoa to mark the occasion in their own way. Churches are being invited to ring their bells at 2.00pm, providing a shared national moment of remembrance and solidarity. People who cannot be at Parliament are invited to pause wherever they are — in workplaces, communities, hospitals, parks or other public spaces — and join the National Minute of Silence.

Every year on the 22nd of September, World Marrow Donor Day honors the everyday heroes who sign up to give patients a second chance at life. At IDFNZ Kids Foundation, we support medically fragile children and their families many of whom rely on life-saving stem cell transplants.

As we celebrateTe Wiki o te Reo Māori , we are sharing the 7 WARNING SIGNS for Primary Immune Deficiency (PID). Many Kiwis suffer from undiagnosed immune disorders, making them much more likely to get frequent infections.

Does your tamaiti (child) or whānau member have recurrent pneumonia, chronic infections, or antibiotics that don't seem to work? Early diagnosis changes lives! Check the image below for the full list of signs and talk to your doctor.

🌿 Kia ora! Nau mai ki Te Wiki o te Reo Māori 2026! 🌿

This week we celebrate the heartbeat of Aotearoa. As we strengthen our reo, we also look out for the health of our pēpi (babies).

Every month in New Zealand, a baby is born with severe liver disease. Our "Beware Yellow" campaign is here to help whānau recognize the early warning signs. Early detection is life-saving!

⚠️ Ngā tohu hei titiro (Signs to watch for):

Kūmā te kiri, ngā kanohi rānei (Yellow Skin/Eyes): Jaundice lasting longer than 2 weeks.

Mimi pōuri (Dark Urine): A newborn’s urine should be clear.

Tūtae mapu (Pale Stools): If a baby’s poo is pale grey, white, or cream-colored, see a doctor immediately.

🏥 Surviving sepsis is just the beginning.

For many, leaving the hospital doesn't mean the fight is over. Post-Sepsis Syndrome (PSS) leaves millions of survivors facing long-term physical, mental, and emotional challenges.

Living with PSS can mean dealing with:
🧠 Brain fog, memory loss & poor concentration
💪 Muscle weakness, joint pain & mobility issues
🫁 Chest pain, breathlessness & swallowing difficulties
😴 Severe fatigue & sleeping struggles
💙 Anxiety, sadness & mood changes

This World Sepsis Day (13 September), let’s shine a light on these hidden struggles and ensure no survivor faces recovery alone.
