Could a simple smartphone video help detect heart disease earlier?📱

Heart Foundation-funded researcher Dr Prashanna Khwaounjoo is developing and testing new technology that uses a short video of a person’s neck to identify signs of serious heart conditions and help prioritise those who need urgent heart scans.

If successful, this low-cost tool could one day be rolled out across GP clinics and reduce waiting times, meaning people could be assessed sooner, especially in communities where access is challenging.

He appeared on Breakfast on Tuesday to share how his research could transform the way heart disease is detected and managed in Aotearoa New Zealand. 💗
