In 1974, Sir Graeme Di**le, Sir Edmund Hillary, Murray Jones and Peter Hillary set out to make the first ascent of the Kaipo Wall.

Rising 4,000 feet above the Kaipo River on the remote West Coast of the South Island, the untouched granite wall was a serious test of courage, skill and resilience.

But the climb was only part of the challenge. The team travelled through remote river systems, crossed Lake McKerrow, reached the wall, climbed it in a single day, then endured a week trapped by snow and torrential rain in a snow cave.

Now, this climb has inspired one of our Move Mountains for Youth challenges.

You can take on the challenge your own way - walk it, run it, climb it or however you choose, while helping young people across Aotearoa build confidence, resilience and belief in what’s possible 🙌

Meet Team NYAG 💚

Our National Youth Advisory Group is taking on the Move Mountains for Youth challenge!

Made up of eight incredible young people from across the motu, NYAG brings youth voice into the heart of the Graeme Di**le Foundation. Each member is a programme alumni, now in tertiary study or employment, helping shape our programmes, share their ideas and represent rangatahi in their regions 👏

Having youth voice and input is essential to what we do. NYAG members help us understand what matters to young people, share their stories, inspire others in our programmes and continue building their own leadership skills along the way.

Now, they’re stepping up once again by taking on their own Move Mountains for Youth challenge to support the next generation of young people across Aotearoa.

Show your support for Team NYAG and help them move mountains for youth!

In 1969, Sir Graeme Di**le and Murray Jones set out to climb all six of the great classic north faces of the European Alps in a single season 🏔️

One of them was the Matterhorn.

Beautiful from a distance, but brutal up close, the Matterhorn tested their judgement, composure and ability to stay calm when the route disappeared, the weather closed in, and the climb became a matter of complete focus.

Now, this climb has inspired one of our Move Mountains for Youth challenges: 44km!

You can take on the 44km challenge your own way- walk it, run it, climb it or however you choose, while helping young people across Aotearoa build confidence, resilience and belief in what’s possible.

Sir Graeme Di**le is asking New Zealanders to stand with our young people.

Across Aotearoa, tamariki and rangatahi are facing challenges like self-doubt, uncertainty and a lack of confidence in what lies ahead. Through the Graeme Di**le Foundation, we help give them the tools, support and belief to move those mountains.

But we can’t do it alone.

Young people across Aotearoa are full of ambition, potential and hope for the future.

But for many, the pathway from school into further study, training or work is not always clear.

That’s where Career Navigator comes in.

Through mentoring, workplace visits, industry presentations and practical workshops, Career Navigator helps rangatahi build the confidence, skills and connections they need to take their next step.

Because potential is already there. Sometimes, young people just need the right support around them to help turn ambition into action.

That’s what Move Mountains for Youth is all about: helping young people overcome the unseen mountains in front of them and build the confidence to keep moving forward 🧡

Donate today and help us support more young people across Aotearoa.
