Care for Families NZ is a registered non-profit charity providing practical and emotional support to families facing neonatal stays, pregnancy and infant loss, medical challenges, and hardship throughout New Zealand. We are always needing donations, everything and anything from small items like clothing, baby wash and lotion, baby baths etc. Whatever prem, baby or children related items you no longer require or feel that you would like to donate goes a long way. Our organization was started when I was still doing home schooling and sitting home the one day looking through freecycle and noticed the alarming amount of posts from parents who were truly battling and were happy to receive anything just to take care of there kids. I started talking to some of the mums and got to know there situations and decided I wanted to make a change, why couldn't people that no longer needed their items pass it on for a good cause? I started with a lovely lady who had a young baby and a toddler and everything in her house had been destroyed by mould and they didn't have the finances to move, so we bought with our own money a cot, change table, clothes, etc. She didn't say much and I walked away feeling defeated till about an hour later when I received a txt saying she was over whelmed and in tears as she had never expected a blessing like that, and it was right there and then our organization was born. We were on and off for a while as I got married and tried to start a family of my own which proved slightly harder then expected and after finally finding out we were pregnant with our son and one very long and difficult pregnancy our miracle was born at exactly 33 weeks weighing 1.9kgs. It was then that we expanded to help families with prems as we as a young newly married couple knew just how hard and financially straining it could be having a prem. I am so happy to have impacted many lives now over 15 years later and hope we can continue to support those on their journey for many more years to come!

And this is our why. ❤️

We don't always get to see or hear how our packs impact families and individuals, but when we do, the message is always the same — it made a HUGE difference.

I'll never forget being stopped in the supermarket a couple of years ago by the loveliest lady. She shared that she had been one of the very first recipients of our packs when we started 15 years ago. Back then, she was a young teen mum who was really struggling and unsure how she was going to make it all work.

We stepped in with practical support, helping her get set up and giving her a hand up when she needed it most. But the impact went so much further than that.

She told me that support helped her get back on her feet, move into her own place, find a job, and build a wonderful life for herself and her precious child. We shared a hug and went our separate ways, but stories like hers — and stories like the beautiful one we're sharing today — stay close to my heart.

They remind me why I keep pressing on, even during the times when it feels impossible.

None of this would be possible without the incredible support of our community. Every donation, every volunteer hour, every item gifted, every share and word of encouragement helps make stories like these possible.

We are so excited to announce that we have teamed up with the amazing team at Highbury House! ❤️

This partnership means we now have a new drop-off point available for donations, making it even easier for our wonderful community to support local families in need.

Not only that, but the incredible team at Highbury House will also be helping with local collections and supporting our Christmas Drive this year. 🎄🎁

The support we've received already has been absolutely amazing, and because of your generosity we've already started receiving Christmas Drive items and have even managed to completely tick several items off our list! 🙌

As we head into our busiest season, we're working hard to make the space we have work better for our incredible volunteers so we can get these much-needed packs out to families.

Right now, two things would make a huge difference:

🏕️ Large pop-up gazebos (or ideally two of them)
We need a covered area where volunteers can work rain or shine. Even better would be a gazebo with sturdy sides that can handle the wind gusts we get here. Our volunteers definitely share plenty of laughs as boxes and supplies take off across the yard, but it's not very productive and makes it difficult to keep everything clean and organised while packing.

🧱 A suitable flooring area
We would love to create a solid working surface outside the container so we can pack safely and efficiently. We do have some bricks available, but we still need the materials required to complete the area, along with advice on the best way to do it. At the moment, we're constantly dealing with dust being kicked up while we work. Every time I open the container, I find myself cleaning and sterilising everything again, which takes a huge amount of time and effort.

🛠️ We also need helping hands!
If you have experience in landscaping, paving, site preparation, building, or you're simply willing to lend a hand, we'd be incredibly grateful for the support. We need both the materials and the manpower to help transform this space into a practical and productive volunteer workspace.

Having a suitable outdoor workspace would make a world of difference. Not only would it make packing days more efficient, but it would also help us keep supplies clean, protect them from the weather, and allow more volunteers to join us as we work to support families across New Zealand.

If you can help with gazebos, landscaping materials, equipment, labour, expertise, or have ideas to share, please get in touch. Every bit of support helps us help more families.

Also want to do a special mention post. Anyone that knows us, knows our heart is to work together. I am a strong believer that when charities work together we can make a much bigger impact!!
We obviously partner with many incredible charities and most weeks pass on van loads of amazing items that we get donated that we cant use to our partner charities.
Well I want to do a special thanks to some of our partners that we have been on the receiving end of recently !!

Huge thank you to HBC Grandparents rasing grandchildren, with their help we have been able to pass on and be Blessed by sooo much goodness, often passed on to the amazing Sarjit who helps care for the local homeless families in our community, as she in return sends us away with more ourselves.

I honestly stood in happy tears last week going through boxes full of what we need for our Christmas packs. I can not begin to express the relief of having half our list almost taken care of before we even put our list out this year!!

With all the generosity of businesses, charitys and every single one of you!! Our Christmas goal which is normaly still well over $50,000 by this time each year, is already at less than $20,000 and it makes my heart soooo happy as it just shows love in action and that when we work together the impact we can make is astounding!!!

Biggest Thank you, to everyone thats been dropping off, as well as Beanies for babies and Woolworths New Zealand for donating a $100 voucher which has helped us purchase urgent nappies needed this week and a MASSIVE thank you to WaterWipes who have donated enough packs of wipes to cover all of our Christmas packs wahooo!!!
