Today we celebrate what would have been a 64th birthday for our beloved Sue Taei 💙
As we celebrate, we reflect on the how her legacy has lived through others over the last four years through the eyes of her daughter, Gyllian Falute Taei.
“Serving Pacific women in ocean spaces through my mother’s legacy is one of the greatest privileges of my life. It’s hard to put into words just how extraordinary these women are—not only in the work they do with us but also in how they carry their culture, their villages, and their ‘why’ in everything they do. I’ve watched these women face unimaginable hardships that few in the world will ever know but are inflicted by the majority and turn those experiences into solutions.
The past four years have been a time of confrontation, grief, and navigating discrimination, yet our Pacific women continue to rise to the challenge, with weight on their shoulders. It’s taken me this time to fully realize what sets us apart: how we care for the people who enter our fale. I am so proud that, with my team, we’ve are part of a movement rooted in transformative change and alofa.
Fa’afetai tele lava to our incredible women for not only reminding me of my Mother but teaching me what it means to serve as a daughter of the Pacific.” I look forward to what’s ahead—the women who will enter my mother’s fale, the shared journeys we will take, and what we can achieve together for our communities, cultures, and oceans.”
