Everyone Has a Story | More Than Just a Uniform

Take a look around the NZ Open Championships and you'll see a sea of different colours and logos.

Northland. North Shore. Auckland. Waitemata. Waikato. Te Manawa. Manawatu. Wellington. Nelson. Marlborough. Canterbury. Otago. Southland.

Each uniform represents more than just a region.

Behind every shirt is a story. A player who travelled across the country. A volunteer who helped make the journey possible. Hours of training after work, school, or university. Friendships built through table tennis. Challenges overcome along the way.

Different regions. Different journeys. One table tennis community. β€οΈπŸ“

Behind every free table tennis table in Auckland, there is someone checking on it.

Our Seekapong Ambassadors are volunteers.

They visit the free public tables across the city, check the table, the net and the sticker, talk to the people playing, and tell us what needs fixing.

This month alone our ambassadors have been out at libraries, schools and public squares from Newmarket to Māngere.

That is how we found a damaged net, an empty bat and ball box, and a gate that should have been open and was not. All three are now with the venues to put right. Without someone on the ground, we would not have known.

We are growing the team. New ambassadors have joined this month, and more are welcome, anywhere in Auckland or beyond.

Interested? Send us a message or email [email protected].

Thank you to every one of our ambassadors for giving your time.

From our first visit to Cockle Bay School on 9 September to the second trial yesterday, it’s been great to see so many students give table tennis a go! πŸ“

We introduced the trials, set up the tables and watched students put their skills to the test.

The second trial included 52 short matches, helping us select seven players and one reserve for the school team. Thank you to Mikram for helping on the day to make this possible.

Thank you to Cockle Bay School for welcoming us, and well done to every student who took part.

We can’t wait to see the team in action! πŸ’™
