The Epsom Chinese Association was founded in 2007 with a group of Chinese residents coming together at Melville Park in Epsom doing daily morning excercises together. Over time we grew to a bigger group and we also started meeting twi

ce a week at the Epsom Baptist Church. We have various recreational activities such as singing, Chinese line dancing, folk dancing, Tai Chi and table tennis. We also manage a small community space, called the Kimberley Room, at 33 Kimberely Rd in Epsom. Here we offer Art classes including Chinese Calligraphy and Sewing Repair Cafes on a regular basis. We host workshops organised by Diabetes Aotearoa as well as environmental information sessions. The Kimberley Room can be booked for activities at an affordable rate for community organisations. We aim to provide opportunities for engagement that provide and strengthen a sense of belonging. With more than 200 members we have created a strong support network for each other. Our members are also keen performers. We have a traditional Chinese singing groups incl. Beijing Opera, dance groups, a choir and a Tai Chi group. We perform at Auckland festivals, libraries, rest homes, community centres and childcare centres. We are looking for new activities for our members, such as Maori language, history, customs and culture. We also work closely with Auckland Council and the Albert-Eden Local Board.

The Creek Walk organised by Earth Action Trust in collaboration with Friends of Oakley Creek, Age Concern Auckland. Neighbourhood Support and Epsom Chinese Association on 17th April, 2026 was very interesting and successful.
Here are the quotes from our Taichi coach :
Today creek walk was incredibly meaningful! As we followed the Wendy from friends of Oakley Creek,, everyone didn’t not only learned about environmental protection and flood resilience but also joined practising Tai Chi during rest time. Each movement reflected both relaxation and focus.

In fact, events like this let us get closer to nature and broaden our knowledge, while also quietly passing on a positive attitude toward life: the Tai Chi philosophy of “harmony between humanity and nature” aligns perfectly with environmental values. It protects nature and nurtures the spirit.

Promoting Tai Chi has never been just about “teaching moves.” It’s more about sharing the harmony and resilience embedded in it. When more people are willing to let go of restlessness and join us to stretch their bodies and settle their minds in nature, this pursuit of a healthy lifestyle will gradually influence those around us.

The Lunar New Year Festival held at Epsom Community Centre on February 28th was a resounding success. Supported by the Albert Eden Local Board and the Welcoming Communities initiative, the event brought together a diverse array of cultural activities and performances that catered to people of all ages and backgrounds. Prior to the commencement of outdoor performances, our experienced MC, Ruth Kuo, invited the Chair of the Albert Eden Local Board, Margi Watson to deliver a speech. The event featured over 20 performances by more than a hundred performers, showcasing waist drum dancing, folk dancing, singing, chorus, Chinese musical instruments, and violin performances. Attendees enjoyed the performances while sampling food from various stalls. The highlight of the event was dumpling making. People tried making dumpings of their own and free tasting. The day's activities were well-received by all in attendance.

Howick Christmas Parade.
It is a privilege for Epsom Chinese Association to participate alongside Botany and Pakuranga Chinese Associations in the Christmas parade held on December 7. The joint procession was marked by its vibrancy, excellent organisation, and warm reception from the public. This inter-association collaboration enhanced Auckland's festive celebrations, highlighting its diversity and inclusiveness. We are delighted to have contributed to an event that fosters community unity and celebrates the spirit of Christmas and multicultural harmony.
