Monte at the LDS Health Expo

Over the weekend Monte took part in the LDS Health Expo, where we hosted a stall and were represented by an incredible group of kaimahi, including all our Service Managers, Des, Ed, Nita and Ainga.

The expo was a fantastic opportunity to connect with the community and share the amazing mahi Monte does. More importantly, it gave us the chance to listen and learn directly from community members about how we can best serve them.

It was also valuable to connect with a range of organisations, strengthen existing relationships and explore new opportunities to work together in support of our communities.

A huge thank you to everyone who represented Monte and helped make the day such a success. We look forward to taking part in many more opportunities like this to connect, listen and work alongside our communities.

A fresh start for one of our whānau

We’re delighted to share an amazing story of a mother and her two adult children who have moved into a private rental after spending almost five years in Monte housing.

When their Whānau Support Coordinator began working with the family, building trust took time. Our kaimahi stayed in regular contact with the whānau, listened to the mother’s concerns and helped her understand the housing options and financial support available through MSD. With continued encouragement from our team, the mother grew in confidence by searching for rentals and attending viewings, until she secured a new private rental for her family.

This is the patient, caring work our Whānau Support Coordinators do every day, building trust, helping families navigate their options and encouraging them to believe in what is possible. A big thank you to all our Whānau Support Coordinators for the heart and commitment you bring to supporting whānau.

Every day, we work alongside whānau to overcome complex challenges and create opportunities for a more stable future.

Recently, one of our team members, Elena, secured the write-off of a $75,000 medical debt for a whānau facing overwhelming financial hardship.

Following the loss of a beloved family member, a married couple raising five children had become responsible for repayments they simply couldn't afford. Through skilled advocacy and persistence, our team championed the family's case until the debt was completely written off. For this whānau, the outcome means far more than financial relief. It means hope, dignity, and the opportunity to move forward with greater stability.

Housing is only part of the journey. By standing alongside whānau and helping remove the barriers that keep families in hardship, we create opportunities for lasting change.

We're incredibly proud of Elena and the life-changing difference she continues to make for the families we serve. 💙

At Monte Cecilia Housing Trust, we are grateful for the generous donations of non-perishable food and household essentials we receive from parishes across Auckland.

Last week, we collected non-perishable food items donated by St Michael's Parish and St Dominic's Parish to help create our Welcome Packs.

We prepare around 40 Welcome Packs each month, providing families moving into transitional housing with essential food items and practical support as they take their first steps towards stability and a brighter future.

A heartfelt thank you to our parish communities and supporters for helping us make a positive difference in the lives of the families we serve.

A big thank you to a generous community member from Māngere Bridge, who donated the first lot of brand-new blankets as part of our Winter Appeal.

As the colder months set in, these blankets will help bring warmth and comfort to the families we support at Monte Cecilia. This thoughtful donation is a wonderful reminder of the care and generosity that exists within our community.

Last week we received our first Winter Woolies donation from Knitting for Charity - St Dominic's Parish, kindly dropped off by Bernadette and Graeme Slocombe on behalf of the group.

We are incredibly grateful for the warmth and care that goes into these handmade donations, which will help support our whānau over the colder months. Thank you for your ongoing support of our community.

Thank you to all our supporters who have donated to us over the years. As you may be aware, earlier this year we updated our donations policy due to limited storage space and Health & Safety requirements increasing. We welcome donations of:

New clothing
New hand-knitted items
Non-perishable food items (with-in expiery dates)

These can be dropped off at our office:

or via the current parish collection system.

As the colder months approach, Monte Cecilia Housing Trust requests your support for our families in need through our annual Winter Woollies Appeal.

We are seeking donations of new warm Clothing and Blankets to help keep everyone warm this winter.
