Our Best Start Plus Nursery Funding Programme funded part-time nursery places for 66 children living in low income families, who were not meeting their developmental milestones at two in 2025.

Children showed progress in all three of the following areas:
🧠 Personal, Social and Emotional
🗣 Communication
🚶‍♂️ Physical

69 children were supported through our Special Needs Inclusion Programme which enables children with disabilities to go to nursery, providing inclusion at its best in private mainstream early years settings.

A total of 30,786 hours of support were provided throughout 23 private mainstream early years settings in 2025. Although fewer children needed our support as a result of the reduced birth rate, the needs of the children we supported were higher, and the hours of support we delivered increased accordingly.

Volunteers' Week 2026! ❤️

This week, we are taking a moment to celebrate the incredible people who give their time, energy and passion to support the Jersey Child Care Trust.

To every single one of our volunteers - thank you.

From our dedicated Trustees guiding our work, to those who generously share their skills to help raise awareness, to corporate teams who get involved in a variety of ways, to amazing individuals who bake, photograph, sell raffle tickets and help our events run smoothly and our amazing ambassadors - you each play such an important role in what we do.

Because of your generosity, we are able to reach more children and families across Jersey and make a lasting difference in our community.

If you have ever thought about getting involved, we would love to hear from you. Whether you have time, skills or simply a passion for supporting children and families, there are so many ways to be a part of the JCCT community.

Last year our registered nursery for 2-3 year olds, Play & Learn at d'Auvergne completed its first full year of providing high-quality play and learning experiences alongside support for families.

During 2025 we provided 4,644 nursery hours, to a total of 26 children as well as 38 Stay and Play Friday sessions. Throughout their time accessing Play & Learn, all children who attended showed progress in the following areas: Relationships, Language & Communication, Self Care & Independence and Attention & Understanding.

At the Jersey Child Care Trust our approach is grounded in evidence, strong partnerships and clear focus on the difference we make for children and families.

To guide how we develop our services, we use an Outcomes Based Accountability (OBA) framework. This keeps us focused on what works and where support is needed most.

Having our good practice in measuring and reporting on outcomes recognised by funders in Jersey and Guernsey, we are commissioned to deliver OBA training to other charities to strengthen how they understand and demonstrate their impact.

Alongside this, we invest in strong partnerships across health, education, early years and the wider community, working collaboratively towards the ambition that all children "have the best start in life and achieve their full potential."

💚 Mental Health Awareness Week 💚

Supporting mental wellbeing is important to the Jersey Child Care Trust. We're proud to have trained Mental Health First Aiders within our team, helping us to recognise when someone may be struggling and offer them the support they need.

Thanks to a Support the Supporters grant from the Sedell-Collings Foundation and Jersey Community Foundation, all of our Early Years Inclusion Practitioners also take part in regular physchological supervision. This gives them a safe space to reflect, process their experiences and continue providing the best possible support to children and families across the island.
