Thank you to the 15 volunteers who turned up yesterday for a sunny beach cleanup at Ouaisne Bay. 6kg of marine debris removed and a bit of environmental education into the impact of nurdles and microplastics on our marine environment. The next beach cleanup will be in August, details will be posted here soon.

A rare turtle that washed ashore in Jersey in Storm Goretti has finally been given the all-clear for release after a long recovery that began on the Island before being flown to a specialist facility. Mona Khalil dedicated the past quarter of a century to protecting Lebanon’s sea turtles. She set up the Orange House Project and trained many volunteers. Early this month, her home in Mansouri was targeted by an Israeli air strike. Yesterday, she succumbed to her injuries and sadly passed away. Rest in peace Mona 💔

Happy Sea Turtle Day!

Remember Crush, the juvenile Loggerhead who washed up in Jersey this winter? Working alongside New Era vets, Littlefeet transported her to Sealife Weymouth for rehabilitation. She and two other UK-stranded turtles are now preparing for release in the Azores.

We’re currently exploring the possibility of fitting all three with satellite transmitters before they go, which would let us track their movements and fill genuine gaps in what we know about Loggerhead migration in this region.

So Crush has completed the first stage of her journey. She has been transferred temporarily to a 2,000 litre holding tank while she is assessed before being moved into a much larger tank with a new house mate. The plan is to move her in the spring to somewhere warm, possibly Madeira or the Azores, for eventual release. So much appreciation to Dr Peter Haworth and all the team at New Era Veterinary Hospital, BDMLR Channel Islands, JSPCA Animals' Shelter, Weymouth SEA LIFE Adventure Park, Loganair, Jersey Oyster Company, The Pet Cabin, Pure Ponds Jersey and importantly to Simon Griffiths and DJ who found her. A smashing community effort!

An early morning start for Crush as staff from New Era and Littlefeet es**rt her on the next stage of her journey. She’s a bit annoyed to be shut in the box but not long now and she will be in her new temporary home at Weymouth Sea Life Centre.
