Does an unsigned employment contract still count?

Not signing a contract doesn’t necessarily mean an employment contract doesn’t exist.

In our latest reel, we look at Jamie’s situation: she receives a contract, doesn’t return the signed copy, but continues working, receives her wages, attends training and carries out her normal duties.

Months later, she still hasn’t raised any concerns about the terms.

The takeaway? Acceptance can potentially be demonstrated through conduct, not simply a signature.

For employers, it’s good practice to:
✔ Follow up in writing when contracts aren’t returned
✔ Keep records of those reminders
✔ Make sure terms are clear and properly communicated

Watch the reel to see the scenario play out.

📅 Achieving Positive Outcomes- Free Webinar

There are times during our working life when we need to have a conversation that we have often delayed having as it sits in the 'too difficult' box. There are a myriad of reasons to delay have difficult conversations, but what is certain is that the sooner they are had the sooner you can move forward. This session looks at how barriers prevent us from achieving positive outcomes and how we can make changes to turn a negative into a positive.

The session is on Wednesday 15 July starting at 12.00pm for 90 minutes. There is no need to register, just join us on on the Zoom link below for this free session:

🌈 June is Pride Month
Pride Month is a time to recognise the challenges still faced by many in the LGBTQ+ community and to show support for equality, acceptance, and human rights. It’s also a chance to celebrate the diversity of sexual orientations and gender identities that enrich our workplaces and communities.
We remain committed to promoting inclusion, respect, and fairness for all. 🏳️‍🌈

Alex works as a customer service advisor in a medium-sized organisation. They have worked there for three years and are generally seen as reliable and engaged.

Over several months, Alex begins to feel increasingly overwhelmed. Workloads have increased, and staffing levels are stretched.

Alex starts arriving late, appears tired, and becomes withdrawn in team meetings—common signs that could indicate mental health struggles at work.

“Open the Conversation & Remove the Stigma”
When workplaces actively engage with Mental Health Awareness, something powerful happens.

✅ Conversations become more open.
✅ Stigma begins to fade.
✅ People feel safer being themselves at work.

Across Jersey, organisations have the opportunity to build more inclusive, supportive cultures: not just this month, but every day.

Because normalising mental health conversations doesn’t just support individuals - it strengthens entire teams.

Let’s keep the conversation going.

“Take Action to Make Changes”
Mental Health Awareness Month isn’t just about awareness - it’s about action.

For workplaces in Jersey, that means creating environments rooted in empathy and support.

Action can look like:
✅ Making time for meaningful conversations
✅ Training managers to respond with empathy
✅ Creating spaces where people feel safe to speak up

Awareness starts the conversation. Action is what changes culture.

What one action could your workplace can take this week?

Liberation Day 2026 falls on a Saturday.
This means that there is no alternate date (bank holiday) granted in lieu.

Whilst Liberation Day remains a statutory public holiday in Jersey, when it falls on a Saturday, it is not transferred to a weekday.
For those employees for whom Saturday is a normal working day, the usual rules for public/bank holidays remain in place.

Wishing everyone a great Liberation Day 2026.

“The Ripple Effect”
Mental health impacts everyone: in every role, at every level.

In workplaces across Jersey, it’s something we all experience, whether directly or through colleagues, friends, or family.

Recognising this is the first step toward building a culture where people feel supported, not isolated.

Because when we understand that mental health is everyone’s business, we create workplaces that work better for everyone.

Start by checking in with your team this week.
