UNICEF India

UNICEF India UNICEF saves children’s lives, defends their rights and helps them fulfill their potential. We believe that we can, together, advance the cause of humanity.

We have the global authority to influence decision-makers, and the variety of partners at grassroots level to turn the most innovative ideas into reality. We believe that nurturing and caring for children are the cornerstones of human progress. UNICEF was created with this purpose in mind – to work with others to overcome the obstacles that poverty, violence, disease and discrimination place in a

child’s path. We advocate for measures to give children the best start in life, because proper care at the youngest age forms the strongest foundation for a person’s future.

Little Ishant plays at the ICDS centre in Chota Mangwa, Darjeeling.

In the first three years, a child’s brain develops faster than ever, and playing fuels that journey toward a happy, healthy future.

Play is more than fun. It’s the foundation of learning and growth.

13-year-old Ashmi from Rajasthan heads to school.

The man behind her is her grandfather, Ratansingh. He's the one making sure she gets there.

Ratansingh didn't grow up in a world that made much space for girls' education. But he knows what opportunity looks like, and he's determined that Ashmi won't miss hers. He believes, simply and firmly, that education is the path to a bright future for her.

That kind of family support changes everything. But it works best when there's something to support it, schools that stay open, programmes that keep girls enrolled, communities that are shown, again and again, that educating a girl is worth it.

When girls are given real platforms to learn, to grow, to be seen as capable of more, they don't just rise to the occasion, they bring their families with them.
