🌳 TERI, in partnership with the GEF UNDP Small Grants Programme India (SGP-India), hosted a Result Sharing Workshop at Gauhati University, Guwahati, spotlighting indigenous knowledge, clean energy, and land restoration across Assam and Meghalaya. The event also served as the official Curtain Raiser for the World Sustainable Development Summit (WSDS) 2027 under the theme "Converging Commitments: Collaborative Actions for a Resilient Planet.”

Dr Vibha Dhawan, DG, TERI, and Dr Dipankar Saharia, Senior Director, TERI, emphasized moving from pledges to implementation. Assam’s ecological wealth and regional leadership will anchor WSDS 2027, demonstrating how state-level initiatives scale to global platforms.

Mr Jayanta Mallabaruah, Hon’ble Minister of Finance, Environment & Forest, and Mines & Minerals, Government of Assam, highlighted the critical need for localized tech solutions—such as engineering Brahmaputra River silt for road construction to simultaneously mitigate annual floods and prevent hill excavation.

Gauhati University VC Dr Nani Gopal Mahanta stressed that nature knows no borders, urging that local communities be treated as active stakeholders in conservation rather than passive beneficiaries. Ms Leena Nandan, Distinguished Fellow, TERI, spotlighted Assam’s environmental leadership, including its green cess and ₹70,000+ crore clean energy pipeline.

Shri Ajay Tewari, Additional Chief Secretary (ACS) Home & Political Department, Govt of Assam confirmed that newly discovered Rare Earth Elements (REE) in Karbi Anglong will be auctioned and extracted using advanced technology to balance strategic energy security with strict ecological safeguards.

Shri Sazzad Alam, ACS, Joint Secretary, Industries, Commerce and Public Enterprise Department, Government of Assam highlighted Assam’s early adoption of SDG 13 via the State Action Plan on Climate Change and APART, joined by institutional leaders from MBDA, NEDFi, and NABARD to scale community finance.

| Celebrating Electric Mobility since 2007 ⚡

On World EV Day, we look back at a journey that began nearly two decades ago.

In 2007, TERI adopted electric mobility and established a Zero-Emission Zone at its Gwal Pahari campus, followed by electric golf carts and REVA vehicles for internal and official travel.

Since then, our work has evolved from early adoption to research, policy, fleet electrification, charging infrastructure, pilot deployments and capacity building, supporting governments, cities, the Department of Posts, CONCOR, logistics operators and industry.

Our focus remains on accelerating the transition to electric mobility, reducing transport emissions and enabling cost-effective low-carbon transport.

The journey continues. ⚡

🌱 TERI EIACP Organises Mission LiFE Programme at Dibrugarh University

TERI EIACP Resource Partner and the UNDP Small Grants Programme, in collaboration with Dibrugarh University and EIACP (PC-Hub), Assam, ASTEC, and supported by the Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change, Government of India, organised the Mission LiFE Programme on “Clean Energy for Climate-Resilient Communities: Local Solutions for a Changing Climate” on 8 September 2026 at Dibrugarh University, Assam.

The programme brought together experts and stakeholders to deliberate on youth and community-led climate action, clean energy adoption in the Northeastern states, climate resilience in Assam, sustainable agriculture and biodiversity conservation.

Key sessions featured Prof. Jiten Hazarika, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Dibrugarh University; Dr PK Bhattacharya, Director, TERI and Coordinator, TERI EIACP; Dr Amit Kumar Thakur, Director, TERI; and Dr Vibha Dhawan, Director General, TERI (Online).

Prof. Pankaj Chetia, Coordinator, Dibrugarh University, also participated in the programme. The programme concluded with a Vote of Thanks by Ms Pallavi Singh, Sr. Programme Officer, TERI EIACP & Fellow, TERI.

TERI, in collaboration with Thoothukudi City Municipal Corporation (TCMC), organised a Stakeholder Engagement and Awareness Activity on Climate Resilience, Accessibility and Urban Mobility on 2 September 2026 at Rajagopal Nagar Children’s Park, Ward 33, Anna Nagar, Thoothukudi.

The activity focused on the Buckle Canal Road Stretch Case Study and the role of community participation in shaping resilient and inclusive cities. Hon’ble Mayor Thiru P. Jegan and Tmt. S. Priyanka, IAS, Commissioner, TCMC, highlighted the importance of cleanliness, waste management, walkability and improved pedestrian infrastructure.

Key Highlights:
▪️ Infographic Wall Art – Visually engaging artwork to promote sustainable mobility and waste segregation
▪️ Buckle Canal Walk & Risk Awareness –Identified flooding, drainage and mobility challenges
▪️ Children’s Awareness Activity – Engaged students in drawing activities to explore visions for accessible and clean cities
▪️ Peer Learning Sessions – Community discussions explored themes under climate resilience
▪️ Participatory Mapping Residents mapped challenges to identify local priorities and solutions

Around 100 participants including TCMC officials, Ward Councillors, RWAs, students, and residents, came together to discuss solutions for a cleaner, safer, and more sustainable Thoothukudi.

The event was conducted under the UK PACT-funded PACT-Digi-PULSE project, led by IIT Madras in partnership with TERI, ITDP India and Cenex.
