Rehearsals are well underway for the national tour of Noelle Brown’s (Cllr Noelle Brown) off-site production of In Plain Sight, opening in the Pillar Room at the Rotunda, Dublin next Wed 21 Oct. Tickets available to book via Smock Alley Theatre, 1662 ‘s box office. But act quick – these limited capacity performances will sell fast!

In a delicate and compassionate exploration through story and song, Noelle and singer/architect Camille O’Sullivan question the links between inconvenient history and place, focussing on the church-run and state-approved Mother and Baby homes at Roscrea, Castlepollard and Bessborough.

Joining the duo in the room is director Veronica Coburn and composer Denis Clohessy. All performances will take place off-site, including in former institutions and churches around the country, so the team are busy reimagining the piece to connect its audiences with the architecture and history behind each venue.

In Plain Sight does not conform to traditional theatre norms. Audiences are positioned as active spectators who share one space with the performers. As they are invited to reflect on their own experiences, they bear witness to a new one.

Irina (Aisling O’Sullivan), a fading star of the stage, returns to her family estate to see her volatile son Konstantin with her lover Boris in tow. Nina, an aspiring actress and Konstantin’s newest obsession, draws everyone – including Boris -into her orbit and the tensions simmering beneath the surface of this idyllic countryside retreat begin to bubble over. Ambitions collide, resentments surface and longing spirals out of control.

What happens when we don’t get what we want?
What happens when we do?

Following the sell-out successes of Uncle Vanya in 2025 and A Streetcar Named Desire in 2024, Cathal Cleary returns to Smock Alley this Christmas with another unmissable classic. The Seagull gets a bold, contemporary reimagining from Simon Stephens, bringing Chekhov’s famously dysfunctional family vividly into the here and now.
