In September 2013, Michelle was eight months pregnant when she became unwell and was rushed to the intensive care unit at the Rotunda Hospital due to a serious haemorrhage.
There was a risk that her womb might need to be removed entirely to stop the bleeding. The bleeding eventually subsided, and she received a blood transfusion to replace the blood she had lost. Tragically, her baby, Seàn, passed away shortly after. With the help of the blood transfusion and the amazing staff at the Rotunda, Michelle made a full recovery.
"I have two girls now after losing my boy, but this would not have happened if I hadn’t received a blood transfusion - I would have either lost my womb or died. Thank you to everyone who worked at the Rotunda hospital in 2013, and to all the amazing blood donors," says Michelle.
