At just four years old, Abiso’s world changed when a painful eye infection stopped him from playing, learning and enjoying childhood.

Living in rural Ethiopia, his family faced significant barriers to accessing eye care. When Orbis-trained community health workers reached Abiso’s village, they provided the treatment he needed and shared practical advice on hygiene and sanitation to help protect his sight and prevent future infections.

Today, Abiso’s mother, Zenash, is hopeful for her son’s future and dreams of seeing him grow up healthy and thriving.

Thanks to the support of people like you, families can access the care, knowledge and support they need to prevent avoidable blindness and build healthier futures.

Ruth and her little brother Yeabsera are full of curiosity and energy 💛

Ruth (age 6) carries a quiet wisdom that comforts her family, while Yeabsera’s (age 4) endless questions light up every room. But trachoma, the leading infectious cause of blindness, was making it harder for them to see, learn, and take part in daily life. Their mother, Aseter, tried traditional remedies to ease their discomfort, but nothing helped.

When Orbis health workers screened the family, the diagnosis was clear: trachoma. For Aseter, seeing her children in pain and at risk of permanent blindness was devastating.

With timely treatment, care, and guidance from local health workers, Ruth and Yeabsera found relief and renewed hope. Early intervention means children can protect their sight and continue to explore, learn, and thrive. 👁️✨

Proud to support life-changing eye care
We were delighted to present a cheque to Ciara Baumgartner from Orbis Ireland last week following a recent fundraising drive at Progressive Vision.

Orbis works around the world to prevent avoidable blindness by training local eye care teams and delivering sight-saving treatment through the incredible Flying Eye Hospital. Together, we’re helping protect vision and change lives.

Youngest Irishman to Cross the Atlantic Solo 🇮🇪☘️

Mark has completed an extraordinary 16-day race across the Atlantic Ocean, finishing 20th out of more than 80 competitors. This achievement comes after four years of dedication — preparation, training, fundraising, and relentless determination to bring his campaign and dream all the way to the finish line in Guadeloupe.

Along the journey, Mark raised vital funds and awareness for Orbis’s work to treat and prevent avoidable blindness. We are incredibly grateful for his support and honoured to see the Orbis logo proudly displayed on his sails.

What an accomplishment — massive congratulations to Mark!

Stay tuned for race footage from Mini Skippy… there’s more to come!
