We're hiring: Volunteer Services Coordinator

Dublin R**e Crisis Centre is looking for a motivated and organised Volunteer Services Coordinator to manage and develop our volunteer programme. Our volunteers are the heart of this organisation. Their commitment, compassion, and time make it possible for us to be there for people affected by s*xual violence, often at the most difficult moments of their lives. This role takes ownership of the whole programme, from recruitment and training to supervision and recognition, building and sustaining the team that makes so much of our work possible.

Reporting to the Head of Operations and Administration, you'll need at least 2 years' experience in volunteer planning, strong organisational skills, and experience working with a CRM system.

Closing date is 16 June 2026 (close of business). Check out the vacancies section of drcc.ie for details.

What a fantastic day! Thousands of women took to the streets today for the VHI Women's Mini Marathon. Among them were people who ran because a friend once made a phone call and needed someone to answer; people who ran because they know personally how hard it is to ask for help; and people who ran because they wanted to do something, and this was something they could do.

To all of you who chose to fundraise for Dublin R**e Crisis Centre, and all those who supported our runners: Thank you. Every step helped to provide vital support to survivors of r**e and s*xual violence.

If you're still collecting sponsorship, it's not too late to send it in.

Everyone deserves the right to be safe, regardless of their housing situation.

Our 2025 data shows a 50% increase in contacts where callers cited concerns involving homelessness, rising from a little over 200 in 2024 to over 300 last year.

Some people described feeling unable to leave their living situations because they could not access other accommodation. Others feared that speaking out against s*xually abusive housemates or live-in landlords could cost them their home.

This is a reminder that for many survivors, the barriers to safety are practical, material, and structural. Addressing s*xual violence means addressing the conditions that trap people in situations of harm.

“Around 4 in 10 of our new clients in counselling experienced other forms of violence alongside s*xual violence. 1/3 experienced coercive control, around half experienced physical abuse and 3 in 10 were being psychologically abused.

“What is really alarming is that around 1 in 6 had been threatened that they would be killed or an attempt actually made to kill them. 6% of our clients were strangled, and 4% had a weapon used against them, and a further 4% were stalked.

“The levels of harm that are being put upon people experiencing s*xual violence are getting worse and worse, and that is exceptionally worrying.”
- Rachel Morrogh, Dublin R**e Crisis Centre CEO.

Our Annual Report 2025 exposed the layered trauma that survivors often carry. We want you to know that you do not have to carry it alone. Our team is here to offer safe, confidential, and trauma-informed support.

"Every survivor of s*xual violence I've ever met, who has made it back from that violence, has done so because of monumental, ferocious determination not to be beaten."

Writing in today's Irish Examiner, Fergus Finlay, board member of Dublin R**e Crisis Centre, suggests that Ireland is failing as a nation. This reflection follows the launch of our Annual Report last week, the survivors who shared their stories, and what the growing demand for our services says about the country we share.

In 2025, our 24-Hour National Helpline took just under 24,000 contacts. Behind each one is a person reaching out in a moment of fear, distrust or isolation, and a team of skilled listeners ready to help them take the next step.

Fergus notes that the incidence of s*xual violence in Ireland is high, and growing. 70% of adults believe we have a problem with consent in this country, and 81% agree that talking about consent leads to healthier s*x and s*xuality. That is the work of our We-Consent programme, and it is work we need society to share with us.

We are grateful to Fergus for his words, and to Tom, Jordan and Tina telling their stories, as well as all the survivors who put their trust in our services.

Thanks to Sarah Garvey, who provided Irish Sign Language interpretation throughout our Annual Report Launch last week.

Accessibility is essential to our work at Dublin R**e Crisis Centre. Our doors must be open to everyone. As we go through our move to Equity House on Ormond Quay this year, accessibility has been central to the design of our new home, so that survivors, supporters and visitors can engage with our work without barriers. We also provide a texting service for those who are Deaf/hard of hearing, and live interpretation in almost every language on our National Helpline.

Thank you to Sarah for making yesterday possible, and to everyone working to make Irish public life more accessible.

The 24-hour National R**e Crisis Helpline is free, confidential and open: 1800 77 8888.

"There's always hope. And as difficult as it can feel, and as dark as it might seem, there is always hope." – Penny, Dublin R**e Crisis Centre volunteer.

For the final video in our three-part series marking National Volunteer Week, our volunteers share their own messages to survivors who are on a healing journey.

These are the voices at the end of the line. Working alongside our staff, these are the people who pick up when someone calls our National R**e Crisis Helpline. They listen without judgement. They believe.

To every volunteer who gives their time, their skills, and their care to this work, thank you.

23,955 contacts to our 24-hour National R**e Crisis Helpline in 2025, 5.5% more than in 2024 and 29% more than in 2023.

Of those that shared this information, 4 in 10 contacts were people calling us for the first time. The rest were people returning to a space they trust.

This year, we heard more about cyberabuse and image-based s*xual abuse (up 63% on 2024), more from people mentioning homelessness, or unable to leave abusive living situations because of housing insecurity, and more from callers carrying the weight of long waits for decisions in their cases.

We also heard, again and again, how much it matters that the line never closes.

If you or someone you know has been affected by s*xual violence, the 24-hour National R**e Crisis Helpline is free and confidential. Call 1800 77 8888 any time, day or night.

"I'm happy in myself now. I want to live." – Tom, survivor.

Three survivors share their stories of trauma and the long road towards healing in this video premiered at our Annual Report Launch on Tuesday.

The personal stories shared in this video mirror the experiences of the thousands of survivors we supported in 2025.

There is a deeply personal story behind each of the 23,955 contacts to our National R**e Crisis Helpline in 2025, the 7,270 therapy appointments, and the more than 500 accompaniment sessions to the Sexual Assault Treatment Unit and through the justice system in that same year.

We are profoundly grateful to Tom, Jordan, and ‘Tina’ for their courage and generosity in sharing their experiences so that other survivors don’t feel so alone.

If anything in the video resonates with your own experience or those of someone you love, Dublin R**e Crisis Centre's national 24-hour helpline is free and confidential: 1800 77 8888

We have already heard from our Helpline team that many survivors are reaching out to speak about their experiences of r**e and s*xual violence for the first time after seeing this video. If you can, please share it through your network.
