Irish badminton is entering one of its busiest and most important high performance cycles in recent years, with athletes across both pathway and senior levels preparing for a demanding run of major international events.

To support athletes and coaches in planning for this cycle, Badminton Ireland, in partnership with the Olympic Federation of Ireland, has published its nomination policies for Dakar 2026, the European Games 2027, and LA28.

Behind every Irish athlete is a huge personal and financial commitment - often carried by families, friends, and communities. Most Olympians earn no financial return for representing Ireland, yet the costs of training and competing continue to rise.

Today, the Team Ireland Athletes’ Commission met with the Department of Finance and An Tánaiste’s policy team to begin exploring fairer tax measures for high‑performance athletes.

A positive first step toward a system that truly reflects the dedication behind the green jersey.

This October, history will be made at the Youth Olympic Games Dakar 2026, the first Olympic event on African soil! 🇸🇳

Team Ireland has secured three quota places , badminton, boxing and coastal rowing. The selection criteria for each sport is now published online. ☘️

Dakar will welcome 4,500 athletes aged 15–18 from 31 October to 13 November 2026.

Irish athletes were flying it this week ☘️ ✨

⛵ Eve McMahon won U23 gold at the ILCA Europeans and finished 4th overall; Finn Lynch finished 5th overall. Irish Sailing 👏

⚡ Sharlene Mawdsley smashed PBs in both the 200m (23.09) and 400m (50.17) in Brussels and is now the 10th fastest in the world this season, 2nd fastest European in 2026. Athletics Ireland 👏

🚲 Conn McDunphy claimed the yellow jersey at the prestigious Rás Tailteann Cycling Ireland 👏

There were also strong breakthrough performances from Athletics Ireland👊

🎽 Anna McCauley broke the 6000‑point barrier in the heptathlon with 6069 in Switzerland.
