What happens when you bring music, storytelling, creativity, and global citizenship together at a festival? 🌍

Sightsavers Ireland Global Citizenship Education Manager, Róisín McAtamney, recently spoke with Near FM about the Global Solidarity Hub's first appearance at Beyond the Pale Festival and why spaces like this matter.

Take a listen to this short clip, and find the full interview here https://listenagain.org/?p=61414

Education can help shape a more inclusive future 🌍

Through workshops, resources, and public engagement activities supported by Irish Aid, Sightsavers Ireland works with young people across Ireland to explore disability inclusion, eye health, and global citizenship.

By learning about the world around us, young people can better understand the role they can play in creating positive change.

What a fabulous day we had at this year's Junior Painter of the Year award ceremony today, in the beautiful surroundings of the IMMA - Irish Museum of Modern Art in Dublin 🎨🖌️🏆

We had over 25 winners across 6 categories, chosen from over 130 entries which were submitted by students across Ireland.

The children's artwork took inspiration from our Put Us in the Picture website, and depicted global citizenship, the SDGs, and inclusive education among other ideas all under this year's theme of "Our Vision for the Future".

A huge congratulations to all of the winners and everyone who took part, and a massive thank you to our expert judges who had the difficult job of selecting the winners from the very high standard of artwork we received!

Thank you also to Ruairí Finan, Irish Aid Education Officer for presenting the awards, and for the ongoing support to our programmes.

Trachoma has affected communities for generations.

But today, many countries are closer than ever to eliminating it.

With continued support, health workers can reach remote communities, deliver treatment, and help ensure children grow up free from preventable eye conditions.

Together, we can help make preventable blindness history ✊

Sight loss can change every aspect of a person’s life, but access to quality eye care can change it back 👁️

We’re proud to feature in the latest issue of Philanthropy Ireland Magazine, exploring how philanthropy is helping Sightsavers Ireland deliver long-term, sustainable impact through eye health programmes worldwide.

The article highlights how investing in eye health goes far beyond restoring sight - supporting education, employment, gender equality, and stronger health systems, while helping tackle inequality at its root.

As the article notes, eye health is not only a medical issue, but “a powerful entry point for tackling inequality.” Through the support of donors, partners, and philanthropic leaders, we can continue building a world where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.

Thank you to Philanthropy Ireland for the feature and to our partners ESB ElectricAid, L'OCCITANE en Provence, and Bank of Ireland Staff Charitable Fund for contributing to the article.
