New Roots - Yate HK 香港 Hub We are a community group formed by Hong Kong people who have settled in South Gloucestershire and are based in Yate.

We regularly organise activities and events in collaboration with the resettlement team, supporting Hong Kong newcomers.

🎉 端午節包粽子工作坊圓滿成功！🥟🐉
今天下午，我們很高興迎來超過40位參加者，一同參與端午節粽製作工作坊。

大家齊心協力製作了超過100隻傳統粽子，並在活動中了解端午節的文化和習俗。衷心感謝導師、義工團隊以及所有參加者的支持，讓活動取得圓滿成功。為了讓活動順利進行，我們的團隊早上10時便開始準備食材。看到大家積極參與、互相交流，我們感到十分欣慰。

希望大家不但享受包粽子的樂趣，也能透過活動感受中華傳統文化的魅力，並與社區建立更緊密的聯繫。

🎉 Dragon Boat Festival Dumpling-Making Workshop Success! 🥟🐉

What a fantastic afternoon! We were delighted to welcome over 40 participants to our Dragon Boat Festival bamboo leaf dumpling-making workshop.

Together, we made more than 100 traditional dumplings while learning about the culture and traditions behind the Dragon Boat Festival. A huge thank you to our instructor, volunteers, and everyone who joined us and helped make the event such a success. Our team started preparing ingredients from 10:00 am to ensure everything was ready, and it was wonderful to see so much enthusiasm and community spirit throughout the day.

We hope everyone enjoyed taking part, learning new skills, and sharing this special cultural experience with us.

歡迎大家來到 Yate Heritage Centre，參加充滿歡樂氣氛的聖喬治日慶祝活動，適合一家大小參與！
✨ 關於聖喬治日
聖喬治是英格蘭的守護聖人，最著名的故事是聖喬治與龍——他勇敢地擊敗惡龍，拯救公主。這個傳說象徵勇氣與正義戰勝邪惡，就像一個經典的童話故事。

🎪 活動內容
活動就像一個傳統的英式鄉村市集，包括：

-本地社區攤位與活動
-穿著15世紀服裝的中世紀表演者
-傳統手工示範（如紡紗、烹飪）
-騎士帳篷（小朋友可試穿盔甲）
-現場表演（音樂及英國傳統莫里斯舞）
-聖喬治與龍的故事演出
-美食、遊戲及抽獎攤位

🌏 英國是一個多元文化社會，活動亦融合不同文化元素，包括來自世界各地的龍文化，讓大家在共同的故事中建立連結。

Join us at Yate Heritage Centre for a fun-filled St George’s Day celebration—a lively, family-friendly event with something for everyone!

✨ About St George’s Day
St George is the patron saint of England, best known for the legendary story of St George and the Dragon, where he bravely defeats the dragon to save a princess. This famous tale symbolises courage, good overcoming evil, and has been passed down like a classic fairy story.

🎪 What to Expect
This event is like a traditional village fair, featuring:

-Local community stalls and activities
-Medieval re-enactors in 15th-century costume
-Demonstrations of traditional skills like spinning and cooking
-A Knights’ Tent where children can try on armour
-Live performances including music and traditional Morris dancing
-A special enactment of St George and the Dragon story
-Food, games, and a fun tombola

🌏 As England is a multicultural society, this event also celebrates cultural diversity—bringing people together through shared traditions, including dragon stories from around the world.

Ukrainian Pysanky Easter Egg Workshop
蜜蠟彩繪染復活蛋工作坊
In Ukraine, the art of decorating eggs is a centuries-old tradition. Using wax, traditional patterns and symbols are carefully painted onto the egg. The egg is then dipped into dye, colouring everything except the waxed areas. This process is repeated layer by layer until the desired design and rich colours are achieved. Each symbol carries personal wishes and meaningful messages. Although the tradition dates back to pre-Christian times, it has become a beloved part of Easter celebrations. Regardless of religious beliefs, exchanging beautifully decorated eggs (Pysankas) as gifts holds deep significance for Ukrainians. This egg-decorating art is deeply rooted in Ukrainian culture and continues to be an important traditional ritual in communities across Ukraine and among Ukrainians living in Estonia.
在烏克蘭，裝飾雞蛋的藝術是傳承數百年的傳統。使用蜜蠟，將傳統圖案和符號細心塗在雞蛋上，之後將雞蛋浸入染料中，讓顏色覆蓋在上蠟區域以外的所有地方。重複此過程，直至創造出理想的圖案與豐富色彩。透過所使用的符號，人們得以表達個人的願望與傳遞美好訊息。雖然這項傳統可追溯至前基督教時代，但隨著時間演進，如今已成為復活節的重要習俗。無論宗教信仰為何，對烏克蘭人來說，以裝飾精美的雞蛋（Pysankas）作為禮物相互交換，別具深遠意義。雞蛋裝飾藝術已深深根植於烏克蘭文化之中，至今仍是烏克蘭各地社區，以及居住在愛沙尼亞之烏克蘭人的傳統儀式。
