The Oxford Food Hub works to mitigate food waste and support other charities in Oxfordshire.

The Oxford Food Hub takes good quality unsold food from local supermarkets, wholesalers and food producers and redistributes it for free to community food projects in and around Oxford.

We're thrilled to share that Oxford Food Hub has been supported by the TRUCK FESTIVAL Fund this year! 🎉

We are one of many local charities supported by the fund, and we're so grateful to the Truck Festival for backing us.

Every year, we head to the festival to collect surplus food that would otherwise go to waste and redistribute it to charities and community groups who need it. This grant will help us to keep doing that.

🌱🍄 In collaboration with Waste2Taste • Oxford, we've created a series of recipe cards featuring some of the more unusual surplus foods we regularly receive, including pak choi 🥬, romanesco cauliflower 🥦, fennel, padrón peppers 🌶️ and oyster mushrooms 🍄.

These recipe cards will be handed out on our van shifts to help make surplus food more accessible, reduce food waste ♻️ and encourage people to try something new in the kitchen 👩‍🍳.

As part of our Reuse, Redistribute and Reconnect project 🤝, we're working alongside our incredible charity partners and connecting with communities, helping good food go further and bringing people together around food ❤️.

📣 Exciting news: we're hiring a Temporary Warehouse Assistant - from mid November to start of February!

We are looking for someone to join our team as a Warehouse Assistant. The assistant will support the day-to-day operations in line with our mission to redistribute surplus food across Oxfordshire.

This full-time role is designed to support volunteers in sorting surplus food in the warehouse, to look after our visiting charities and to ensure our facilities are safety-compliant. 🦺

If you're organised, resilient and a team player, we'd love to hear from you.

Applications close at midnight on Tuesday 3rd November, for a November 17th start.

Congratulations to the Junior Chef champions from St John Fisher Catholic Primary School! 🧑‍🍳🍝

Year 6 students David, Roxanne and Angelina have been crowned Oxfordshire Junior Chef winners!

They designed and delivered a menu using produce from their school, as well as surplus food from Oxford Food Hub.

We are proud to work with schools like St John Fisher Catholic Primary School, which are highlighting the many ways surplus food is put to good use across Oxfordshire, helping young people engage with the food system and build their confidence in the kitchen.

Happy World Food Day 🌎

Every week, food from farms across the United Kingdom, Spain, Ecuador, and Turkey reaches Oxfordshire, and we make sure it ends up on plates rather than going to waste. Figs, bananas, chillies, and pumpkins, for example, are grown and picked by people we may never meet and now feed 250+ local charities and community groups. Food connects us all.

Spotlight on surplus: we wanted to shine a light on the amazing Oxford Community Action 🌿

Oxford Community Action was established in 2018 and started its food redistribution service in 2020 to support the needs of marginalised communities throughout the pandemic. Since then, it has gone from strength to strength, providing surplus food to hundreds of families a week and empowering community members to become agents of change.💚

🍏 Monthly Weigh-ins 🍏
In September, we saved around 59 tonnes of surplus food! To put this month into context, that’s roughly 134,090 meals 🍽️*, 21 Rhinos, 1 Dreadnoughtus schrani or about the weight of 23 Oxford Food Hub vans.
