Overcoming Multiple Sclerosis

Overcoming Multiple Sclerosis Overcoming MS is a global charity that gives people hope and the tools to take back control of their MS through an evidence-based lifestyle Program.

Our vision
Our vision is a world in which living well with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is possible for everyone. Our aims
We help people with MS to find hope, take control and self-manage their MS. Research has shown how lifestyle changes can help slow – and sometimes even stop – MS symptoms, as it modifies your risk factors. The specific outcome varies by person. We aim to inform, support, empower

and everyone affected by MS to lead a full and healthy life by making lifestyle changes and we collaborate to extend our impact. What we do
We are here for everyone with MS who wants to take control of their health and well-being. Although there is no cure for MS currently, we help people with MS to live well by making informed lifestyle choices. They have clear, practical actions to make by following the Overcoming MS Program. We understand that making and sticking to changes can be hard. So we are here to help you with our podcast, webinar series, digital content, and our global community of groups (Circles) providing ongoing support. We also campaign and fund open access to research into how lifestyle influences MS. About the Overcoming MS program
The Overcoming MS program focuses upon the everyday practical lifestyle changes that people with MS can make, in areas including diet, exercise, Vitamin D and stress management. It draws upon substantial scientific evidence of how holistic self-care, alongside medical therapies, benefits people's physical and mental health. Knowing people can change heir risk of deterioration through lifestyle choices gives hope to us all.

Diagnosis is not just one moment.

For many people, it is the beginning of a long process of learning, adjusting, hoping and finding a way forward.

This World MS Day, we’re sharing Luke’s story.

Diagnosed with MS in 2013, Luke reflects on more than a decade of living with MS – including hope, setbacks, medication, lifestyle choices and learning to live with more balance and self-compassion.

His story is a powerful reminder that living well with MS does not mean getting everything right all the time. It means finding a way forward that is sustainable, honest and supported.

This World MS Day, people around the world are sharing what an MS diagnosis means to them.

For many, diagnosis brings fear, uncertainty and questions about the future.

But diagnosis is not destiny. It can also be the beginning of finding trusted information, support, medical care, community and lifestyle choices that help you move forward.

At Overcoming MS, we believe everyone diagnosed with MS should have access to evidence-based support from the start.

MS: A diagnosis, not a destiny

Medication is one of the 7 pillars of the Overcoming MS Program – and an important part of holistic MS care when it’s right for you.

In this clip our medical advisor Dr Jonathan White explains why medication and lifestyle choices are not separate conversations. They work alongside each other.

For some people, medication may mean disease-modifying therapies. For others, it may mean treatment for relapses or support with symptoms such as pain, fatigue, bladder issues or cognitive challenges.

The balance can change over time, and the most important thing is having trusted information, guidance and space to make decisions that feel right for you.

When people don’t know what may help, they can miss out on support, information and practical steps that could improve everyday wellbeing.

In our survey, 27% of people said they weren’t sure whether healthy lifestyle choices could make a difference for MS. For heart disease, only 5% said the same.

That gap matters.

People with MS and their families deserve clear, evidence-based information from the point of diagnosis, so they can feel more informed, more supported and more able to take positive steps for their health.

It’s time to close the awareness gap.

We share a lot of speedy recipes, but not every cooking session needs to be quick… and some recipes are worth taking your time over 🍲

This mushroom & green veg risotto is one of those recipes. It’s slow, comforting cooking at its best – building flavour step by step, stirring, tasting, and letting everything come together.

Packed with mushrooms, greens and herbs, it’s a nourishing, plant-based dish that rewards a little patience with a rich, creamy texture (no dairy needed).

🌱 Why it’s worth it:
– Full of fibre-rich veg and plant-based goodness
– Deep, savoury flavour from mushrooms and herbs
– A mindful way to slow down and enjoy cooking

Set aside the time, put on your favourite music, and enjoy the process – the end result really does speak for itself.

“A difficult life doesn’t have to be a joyless life.”

Adra Shephard explores the reality of living with MS – honest, raw and unfiltered. Because while MS can be incredibly hard, it doesn’t mean life can’t still hold meaning, connection and even moments of beauty.

This podcast doesn’t sugarcoat the challenges. But it also reminds us that even in difficult circumstances, there is still space to live well.
