Bike Safe welcomes Council’s Greenways announcement
Bike Safe warmly welcomes the announcement by Oxfordshire County Council (OCC), Oxford University and Oxford City Council of the development of a network of Greenways for active travel around Oxford. We congratulate Councillor Gareth Epps, Councillor Anna Railton and Professor Mark Smith for setting out a vision which will give people choice on how they travel and help with sustainable economic growth.
Some links such as the route from Iffley towards Abingdon already exist and are well used. The Oxford Growth Commission’s Interim Report in December 2025 specifically mentioned the construction of the B4044 path from Botley to Eynsham as critical to the success of the Oxfordshire growth agenda. The plans for the B4044 path are well advanced. Bike Safe urge OCC to seek the necessary funding to develop this route as one of the first sections of the wider Greenways network.
