The lives of the saints show us that holiness is never selfish, it is lived for the sake of the Church. Fr Dominic White OP observes that this is even true of hermits like St Frideswide, who lived a secluded life all on her own, praying for the needs of others.

This then prompts the question: how does intercession work? What happens when we ask a saint for pray for us?

Join the Dominican Friars for a short course on 'Patterns of Promise: Discovering Christ in the Old Testament'.

Pope Leo XIV recently appointed the new members of the International Theological Commission, including the Lay Dominican Dr Sara Parvis, who is also the President of the Edinburgh Fraternity of the Lay Dominicans. A huge congratulations to Dr Parvis!

What do the Sorrowful Mysteries reveal about Christ's suffering — and how can they help us bring our own sufferings to him?

In this second video in our October series on the Rosary, Fr Lawrence Lew OP introduces the five Sorrowful Mysteries: the Agony in the Garden, the Scourging at the Pillar, the Crowning with Thorns, the Carrying of the Cross, and the Crucifixion and Death of Our Lord.

As we contemplate each mystery, we can bring to Christ the sufferings of our own lives and of the world: loneliness, illness, mental anguish, the burdens of sin, and the crosses we struggle to carry. At the heart of these mysteries is the love of Christ, who offers himself for our salvation.
