“Not everyone finds a complete world.
Where there is land, there is no sky.
Everyone seems lost in their own world. We have words, but rarely find someone who truly understands us.
It’s not that love doesn’t exist in this world. It’s just that we don’t always find it where we hope to.”

These lines are a loose English translation of Kabhi Kisi Ko Mukammal Jahan Nahi Milta, a poem by renowned Urdu poet Nida Fazli, recited by a student during the closing ceremony.

Thank you to our Co-Head of Programmes, Emily Bastable, and our volunteer Dr Shubhangi Thakur for sharing their insights. Emily reminded us that AI is a powerful tool for learning, but it should not replace our own voice. Dr Shubhangi spoke about how women’s health happens in ripples: by teaching 61 students, she also reached their mothers, grandmothers, sisters and friends.

Together, these reflections remind us that no one has a perfect world, but our own voice and the ripples we create can still make a difference in the one we have.

🇲🇩 Meet the speakers behind "From Classroom to Career"

Partnering with Ion Creangă State Pedagogical University (UPSC), we are guiding first-year psychology students through research, personal branding, career paths and the skills to build along the way.

"Her health, her power."

That's the title one group gave their poster on Day 4 at Karamat Husain Muslim Girls PG College.

In the women's health session, it was presentation day, and everything from the week came together. The class split into four groups, each looking at women's health at a different stage of life. They presented what they had learnt, with plenty of creativity and research behind it. In the Q&A, they asked each other questions and challenged each other's ideas, and things even got a little competitive.

In the AI session, a debate opened the class, on a question one of the students had put forward: "Who is more fair: Humans or AI?" The class was split almost evenly. Some argued that humans are too emotional when making decisions, others that AI is biased because human information is biased. There was no winner, and both sides were heard.

Then came the fun part. Using AI, the students built jewellery businesses for students in Lucknow, inspired by the city's landmarks and its chikankari embroidery. They worked out a selling point, a pitch and an advert, then tried to convince each other to buy.

From health to debate to business, these young women are ready to lead their own way.

"I referred to this place as an oasis and it really is."
That's what our Co-Head of Programmes, Emily B, said about Karamat Husain Muslim Girls PG College after Day 1.

In her AI session, phones came out straight away. Students tried different chatbots and practised prompting. Some already use AI for assignments, while others mostly use it for funny pictures with friends. At the end, everyone filled in a worksheet on how they use AI, and Emily will use it to plan the rest of the week around them.

Dr Shubhangi Thakur, a public health professional, led the women's health session. The class started with one simple word: health. And the students ran with it, much further than she expected. "They are curious and they have so much to say," she said.

What a start to the week! So many questions and conversations to build on.

🇮🇳 We're back in Lucknow!

Our programme here, in partnership with Karamat Husain Muslim Girls PG College, has officially kicked off. We've been working with them since 2018.

This year, Emily Bastable is leading a workshop on AI, while Dr Shubhangi Thakur is teaching our participants about a very important subject: women's health.

Access to information is not a privilege, it is a superpower that helps entire communities make better decisions for themselves and those around them. All week, our teachers will be empowering students at Karamat College with reliable and practical information on health and AI - a true investment in their professional and personal futures.

Open to NGO leaders worldwide, free and online!

Our next NGO Leaders Fellowship Open Session is on mental health and wellbeing for NGO teams and the communities they work with.

We'll be joined by Rebecca Bosetti, PhD, Assistant Professor at the University of Kentucky College of Social Work. Her work looks at mental health, trauma, wellbeing and social work. She's also shared her thoughts on wellbeing and academic life with Professors Without Borders before.

When an NGO team has strong mental health and wellbeing, they become a powerful team. They can handle all kinds of challenges and changes, including limited resources. And a small team with real spirit can make a big impact.

Professors Without Borders is partnering with Pedagogical State University “Ion Creangă” in Chișinău for From Classroom to Career, convened by Bob Eckhart and Rodica Balan.

Across six interactive sessions, 25 first-year psychology students will learn from presenters from the US, Germany, Luxembourg and Moldova, connecting their academic studies with the world of work from the start of their university journey. This early intervention is crucial because many psychology graduates in Moldova finish with strong theory but lack a clear understanding of practical career pathways or how to position themselves in the job market.

By the end of the programme, each student will have a personalised three-year academic roadmap linking their coursework and experiences to a desired career direction in psychology.
