We’re thrilled to congratulate St Mungo’s Chief People Officer Kerry McCafferty, who has been recognised with an MBE in the King’s Birthday Honours! šŸ‘

With a career in human resources which spans more than 35 years, Kerry has spearheaded several initiatives to create an inclusive, engaging and supportive workplace culture.

On Wednesday, Her Majesty Queen Camilla visited one of St Mungo's accommodation services in South London to meet some of the incredible people involved in a vital new project led by us and The Queen's Reading Room , which explores how reading can support the wellbeing and recovery of people experiencing homelessness. šŸ“š

Joined by author Elif Shafak, Her Majesty heard stories from people supported by St Mungo's who have taken part in the programme, as well as the frontline colleagues helping to run it.

For Milena, who has been supported by St Mungo's since 2019, the partnership has made a real difference: "When the first books from The Queen's Reading Room arrived at my St Mungo's accommodation, I was really thrilled. Reading has always been a passion of mine since I was a child."

We were honoured to welcome Her Majesty Queen Camilla to our service in South London today, in a collaboration between St Mungo’s and The Queen's Reading Room.

Joined by author Elif Shafak and broadcaster Lorraine Kelly, Her Majesty met the people involved in a vital new project exploring how reading can support the wellbeing and recovery for people who have experienced homelessness.

The Queen’s book club and literary charity have supported reading activities across a number of St Mungo’s accommodation services through book donations, dedicated bookshelves and a ā€˜Make Room For Reading’ toolkit for frontline colleagues.

Speaking at the event, St Mungo’s CEO Emma Haddad, said:

ā€œWe are honoured to have welcomed Her Majesty The Queen to St Mungo’s today, and privileged to have been able to introduce her to people whose recovery from homelessness has been positively impacted by books and reading.ā€

✨ Volunteers’ Week 2026 has given us the perfect moment to shine a light on everyone who has given their time, skills and kindness to help rebuild lives and support people recovering from homelessness.

šŸ† This year, we brought everyone together at two uplifting events in Bristol and London and awarded 30 volunteers for their outstanding commitment, made possible with the support of The Marsh Trust.

As we wrap up this year’s celebrations, we want to say a big thank you to all of our volunteers for going above and beyond over the last twelve months! 🧔

šŸ—£ļø ā€œBefore ACE, I’d been misdiagnosed for depression and stress. But really, I had five decades of trauma piling upā€

ACE (Assertive Contact and Engagement) is a St Mungo’s service in Bristol supporting people experiencing severe mental health challenges and trauma.

šŸ™Œ When Jackie joined ACE, she finally began to get the right support. Within a week, she was in a group and attending recovery college - slowly realising she wasn’t alone.

She was introduced to therapies like dialectical behaviour therapy, which she still uses today to stay calm and manage her mental health.

Over time, Jackie found her voice. She went on to campaign for the Domestic Abuse Bill and now advocates for better mental health support, using her experience to help others. 🧔

🌸 Ahead of the RHS - Royal Horticultural Society Chelsea Flower Show, we’ve been looking back at when St Mungo’s Chelsea Flower Show garden featured in 2022, shining a light on our Putting Down Roots programme.

🧔 Gardening can be a powerful tool for recovery. For people recovering from homelessness, it can offer routine, build confidence, create connection and provide a sense of purpose.

🌱 Through Putting Down Roots, people are supported to develop gardening skills, improve wellbeing and gain a qualification to prepare them for work.

šŸŽ§ Tune into BBC Radio London to hear Matt, one of our Horticulture Skills Managers, reflect on the Chelsea Flower Show garden and how gardening can support recovery: https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/live/bbc_london
