Alerta ambiental en México: proyectos de lujo amenazan un santuario natural en Tepoztlán.

La cueva de Oztuyehualco es ese último refugio. El municipio ya clausuró las obras de lujo que la están destruyendo, pero los desarrolladores siguen operando en la total impunidad. Solo la presión de todo el país y la intervención de las autoridades federales (SEMARNAT) podrán frenar las máquinas.

Si el murciélago magueyero desaparece, el efecto dominó es devastador:
Colapso del agave: Pierde su genética y queda indefenso ante plagas y el cambio climático.

Golpe al mezcal: Se afecta la producción, dejando sin sustento a miles de familias y comunidades.

Daño a la selva baja: Se altera de forma irreversible la flora local, como cactáceas y amates.

Tepoztlán es un municipio pequeño. Al igual que pasó con Mahahual, los colectivos locales no pueden solos contra el dinero de las inmobiliarias. Necesitamos a un México unido para defender nuestro territorio.

Environmental alert in Mexico: luxury projects threaten a natural sanctuary in Tepoztlán.

The Oztuyehualco cave is that final refuge. The local municipality has already ordered a shutdown of the luxury construction sites destroying it, but the developers continue to operate with total impunity. Only a nationwide outcry and the intervention of federal authorities (SEMARNAT) can stop the machinery.

If the long-nosed bat disappears, the domino effect will be devastating:
Agave collapse: It loses its genetic diversity, leaving it defenseless against pests and climate change.
A blow to mezcal: Production is heavily impacted, stripping thousands of families and communities of their livelihood.

Damage to the jungle: Local flora, such as cacti and amate trees, is irreversibly altered.

Tepoztlán is a small town. Just like what happened in Mahahual, local collectives cannot fight the real estate money alone. We need a United Mexico to defend our territory.

And she had good news. Reform has confirmed that her care home, along with four others under threat, will stay open.

Dorothy should never have had to fight for her home at 93, but she did. Thank you, Dorothy, for inspiring us. Together, we can take on Reform’s cruel proposals. This is people power in action, and we will keep holding Reform to account.

While you look for ways to handle intense heatwaves and rising energy bills, TotalEnergies executives are locked in a room in Paris celebrating record-breaking profits.

But here is the real scandal: your own savings are funding this.

Billions of euros from French public savings accounts—like the Livret A—are quietly being used to back TotalEnergies. Nearly €1.7 billion of citizens' money is propping up destructive projects like the EACOP pipeline in East Africa, which threatens critical water sources for millions of people.

They are using your savings without your consent. We took to the streets of Paris this morning to demand transparency.

🌍 History was just made at the United Nations. ✨

The UN General Assembly just adopted a landmark climate resolution, unlocking a global roadmap for climate action and marking a new era for polluter accountability.

The resolution transforms last year’s International Court of Justice ruling that combatting the climate crisis is a legal obligation, into a political mandate.

This milestone is the result of the Pacific island state Vanuatu’s unwavering leadership and years of pressure from frontline communities, youth movements, Indigenous peoples, and civil society. Over 455,000 Avaaz members joined this global push to back this fight!

As 17-year-old Vepaiamele from Vanuatu put it: “This vote does not stop rising tides overnight, but it states that our lives, our homes and our future are worth saving.”

17-year-old Ni-Vanuatu climate activist Vepaiamele Trief fought for the survival of her tiny island nation at the International Court of Justice in 2025, and it ruled that climate action is not a political choice but a legal obligation.

Today, governments are voting at the to decide whether they will uphold international law.

Fossil fuel interests are trying to weaken the text through eleventh-hour amendments -- the stakes couldn't be higher. UN delegates: reject the changes and turn this vote into globally coordinated action for our collective future!

This is not just neglect. It is preventable harm.

Avaaz has submitted her case to the UN Special Rapporteur on Torture, Dr Alice Jill Edwards, who plans to visit Morocco June 9th. We urge Dr Edwards to act now:
