They trained. They qualified. They’re ready to nurse.

So why can’t they get jobs? 💔

These newly qualified nurses gave years of their lives to this profession, studying, working countless hours on clinical placements and preparing themselves to care for patients.

They did everything that was asked of them.

Now they deserve the opportunity to actually begin the careers they worked so hard for.

These are the next generation of nurses and at a time when our health service desperately needs nurses, we cannot afford to lose them before their careers have even begun.

This isn’t just about jobs.

It’s about the future of nursing.
It’s about workforce planning.
It’s about patient care.
And it’s about what message we are sending to every person currently training to join this profession.

The Royal College of Nursing is calling for urgent action to ensure newly qualified nurses have a future within our NHS.

NHS trusts bang on about birth choices but the truth is you cannot choose to have a physiological birth anymore ⬇️

💫It’s not new to us at
💫We’ve been campaigning for years
💫It continues to happen
💫BIRTH CENTERS closing not staffed
💫The shortage of midwives then ⬇️
💫Midwives leaving in hundreds every year
💫Midwives not supported to work this way trained
💫Midwives not adequately trained / disrespected
💫Recruitment freezes
💫Zero funding for home birth teams
💫A total reform is needed

This is a SHOUT OUT to all those wonderful NHS midwives who react with positivity, excitement and trust when clients tell them that they have an independent midwife caring for them or who make integration of IM care with NHS service a positive experience for all concerned.

As an independent midwife it is often SUCH a time consuming, frustrating and scary time to contact a local trust to try and integrate their clients care into local NHS care provision.

Most IMs have had threats of disciplinary action/lack of understanding/refusal to collaborate etc etc to contend with.

But recently, I have seen a bit of a change!

And it has been really wonderful to see the tide turning with NHS midwives welcoming collaboration, integration, flexibility and respect for our client choices with the ultimate goal of achieving what we are all working towards: a satisfying and positive experience for our clients ♥️

So THANK YOU to all the midwives who are:

♥️ willing to liase with us for our clients care

♥️ accept that IMs may do things differently for various reasons and that is ok

♥️ talk positively about us to our clients

♥️ make access to results and records easy

♥️ are excited for our clients to be able to access continuity of care

♥️ are curious without defensiveness about what independent care may look like

♥️ are happy to support us with access to our clients when in hospital and treat us as an integral part of the multidisciplinary team that we are

⭐️ I really REALLY appreciate all of you ⭐️

💙Nurses and midwives leaving 💙

💙Exact figures are not known
💙3000 midwives have thought to have left in the last year? Nurses im not sure but it’s too many!
💙 what are the exact figures?
💙This nurse like many more asked for adjustments to her working hours due to a sudden change in her circumstances!
💙Her family increases from 4-6 overnight!
💔She is caring for two children that lost their mum💔
🤯She was REFUSED after 16 years service!
💙SO she RESIGNED for her own self worth!
💙The NHS is loosing experienced midwives and nurses often dive to this mismanagement, we seen it happen time and time again!
💙SOME NHS trusts have big egos thinking they can afford to do this, and we are just a number….
💙But the math ain’t mathing anymore we don’t have an abundance of experienced nurses and midwives anymore…..

⚡️HOW can they get away with attitudes like this! ⚡️

The Amos Report concluded it did not find “normal birth ideology” to be widespread in the maternity services it visited.

This interview was recorded a few months ago, but I still believe the conversation comes back to the same thing: LISTENING to women. Individualised care. Every woman accessing the right care at the right time.
