Ebola is spreading across the Democratic Republic of the Congo, putting children at increasing risk.
As of 11 June, the DRC has reported 676 confirmed cases and 136 confirmed deaths.
For many children, access to healthcare was already limited due to years of conflict and instability. As the outbreak grows, the risk of infection inside homes and communities increases – meaning more children could be affected in the days ahead.
Every Ebola outbreak places children at risk – not only from the virus itself, but from the wider disruption to health, nutrition, education and protection systems.
UNICEF is working with partners to support the response by delivering essential supplies, including medicines, hygiene kits, and medical equipment. We are also engaging with communities to provide information about the virus, helping families understand how Ebola is transmitted and how to reduce the risk of infection.
We must protect children and prevent further spread through rapid action and ongoing support for communities and health services. Immediate, safe and sustained humanitarian access is vital.
