Sixty Jesuits from Britain, Ireland, France, the Netherlands and Flanders gathered at the Old Abbey of Drongen in Belgium for a retreat focused on their shared mission in Western Europe.

Part of the wider Common Mission process, the gathering brought together younger Jesuits and their Provincial and Regional Superiors for prayer, spiritual conversation and discernment around a central question: “What calls do we hear in Western Europe that would help us deepen our common service of Christ’s mission?”

The retreat marks a significant step in building on existing relationships and strengthening collaboration between Jesuit provinces and regions.

Jesuits and collaborators working with refugees and migrants around the world gathered in Oxford this summer for the fifth Pedro Arrupe Summer School in Forced Migration.

Held at Campion Hall, Oxford from 2–15 July, the Summer School brought together 12 participants – ten Jesuits, one religious sister and one lay colleague from Jesuit Refugee Service – for two weeks of study, reflection and formation.

Participants came from ministries in Kenya, Peru, the United States, Mexico, Brazil, Nepal, Bangladesh and other international contexts, bringing a wealth of experience in pastoral work, advocacy, livelihoods programmes and research. Several had themselves experienced migration or forced displacement.

Organised by Campion Hall in partnership with Jesuit Refugee Service - JRS and Boston College, the programme explores the causes of forced migration and international refugee protection alongside Catholic Social Teaching, theology and Ignatian spirituality. It also gives participants the opportunity to share experiences from their own ministries and build relationships across the global Jesuit network.

The Summer School is made possible through financial support from Jesuits in Britain, helping participants from across the Society of Jesus to access this specialist formation.

One participant described the experience as “a time of deep consolation”, while another spoke of returning to their ministry with “renewed hope, inspiring dreams, fresh insights”.

The Jesuit Church of the Sacred Heart in Edinburgh is delighted to host this special festival concert tomorrow, celebrating the remarkable musical legacy of the Wesley family.

Performed by the Sacred Arts Festival Singers under the direction of Calum Robertson, with organist Max Carsley and a brass ensemble from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, the programme honours Samuel Sebastian Wesley (1810–1876), one of the most influential composers of English sacred music.

It’s a wonderful opportunity for anyone who loves music to enjoy an evening of beautiful sacred music, including the premiere of three newly commissioned works by winners of the 2025 Young Composers’ Competition.

The board is particularly interested in experience in fundraising and marketing, media and communications, advocacy and campaigns, or IT systems and AI.

Jesuits and colleagues from across Jesuit works in Britain joined thousands of Catholics at this year’s WeBelieve Festival, bringing the gift of Ignatian spirituality to people from across the breadth of Catholic life.

Held at St Mary’s College, Oscott, from 24–27 July, WeBelieve brought together families, young people, clergy, religious and Catholic organisations for four days of prayer, liturgy, talks, music and community.

Representatives from the London Jesuit Centre, Pray As You Go, and Jesuit Young Adult Ministries met festivalgoers throughout the weekend, while Fr David Krol SJ led a session for young people on ‘Finding God in All Things’.

The Jesuit stand also invited visitors to reflect on their own prayer through questions such as “How do you pray?”, “Where do you pray?” and “Where do you like to pray?” Contributions came from children as young as eight through to priests and bishops.

“It’s been a great opportunity for Jesuits in Britain to be there, as this shows the depth and breadth of the Catholic faith. It is a good opportunity to introduce Ignatian Spirituality,” said Christie Cheng of the London Jesuit Centre.

The Papal Nuncio to Great Britain, Archbishop Miguel Maury Buendía, has blessed two new beehives at Campion Hall, Oxford, the Jesuit Permanent Private Hall of the University of Oxford.

The new apiary is part of Campion Hall’s commitment to integral ecology and care for creation, bringing together faith, research and practical action.

Br Geoff te Braake SJ has professed his Final Vows in the Society of Jesus, marking the definitive incorporation of a Jesuit into the Order after many years of formation, prayer and ministry🙏

Fr Peter Gallagher SJ, our Provincial, presided at the Farm Street Church Mass and received Geoff's vows on behalf of the Superior General.

Geoff's journey began more than 15 years ago, when he was working in London and looking for a deeper connection to his faith. He found the Mount Street Jesuit Centre (today London Jesuit Centre), where an Ignatian Day led to Christian Life Community, then a spiritual director, then a chance meeting with a Jesuit brother.

"As I explored more I felt at home and continued," Geoff said.

Geoff's parents, Marilyn and Jos, made the journey all the way from South Africa to be there for him, joined by family, friends, fellow Jesuits and partners in mission.

Preaching at the Mass, Fr Peter drew on the Gospel image of the treasure hidden in the field. That treasure, he said, is Geoff's effectiveness, his kindness, and his many achievements. "This is a day for the rest of us to express gratitude," he said.

Congratulations, Br Geoff. Welcome home.
