Good Friday at Cana Club – an evening of quiet depth, generous spirit, and no small amount of joy.

This year’s gathering brought together a film screening of *Risen (2016)* – a thoughtful and rather striking portrayal of the Resurrection seen through the eyes of a Roman tribune – alongside a carefully prepared four-course menu, made possible through the kindness and dedication of many hands.

We remain immensely grateful to *The Mayfair Chippy,* who, despite the considerable demands of Good Friday, once again extended their generosity with a grand donation of fish & chips. It is no small thing to support us on such a busy day, and it did not go unnoticed.

All in all, a *Good Friday* marked not only by remembrance, but by generosity, collaboration, and a shared sense of purpose.

To everyone involved – thank you. It truly would not have been possible without you.

Yesterday’s Open Day at the *London Jesuit Centre* proved to be a thoroughly fruitful and convivial occasion.

*Cana Café* was delighted to host its very own stand, presenting its role and mission alongside some of our closely connected initiatives, including *Grow Together – Organic Gardening* and the *Cana Club* Friday Dinner, which welcomes and serves our more vulnerable guests.

The day offered a splendid opportunity to introduce our work to the wider public, forge new connections, and enjoy a number of meaningful conversations with visitors curious about what Cana is all about. There was a real sense of interest and encouragement from those who stopped by our table, many of whom were keen to learn more about how these projects bring people together in a spirit of hospitality and care.

Our stand was also something of a culinary attraction. With a generous display of handmade sweet and savoury muffins, it quickly became one of the most popular stops of the day—quite possibly the most delicious as well. As one visitor cheerfully remarked, it was “ _without a doubt the yummiest stand here,”_ which we happily took as high praise indeed.

A very special word of thanks must go to *Jeff* , who represented Cana throughout the entire day and expertly manned the stand with warmth, enthusiasm, and patience. Another heartfelt thank you goes to *Victoria* , who undertook the vast majority of the baking, producing a marvellous assortment of artisan muffins, and who also helped set up the stand in the morning.

Finally, sincere thanks are due to *Mark* for the ordering, printing, and careful preparation of all the presentation materials - leaflets, information sheets, and our very own eponymous Cana banner, which gave the stand a most handsome and recognisable presence.

All in all, it was a joyful day of hospitality, conversation, and community spirit - exactly the sort of gathering that reflects the heart of Cana’s mission.

Thanks everyone for coming out on Friday night. Your participation especially around serving our menu of fish and chips courtesy of the Mayfair Chippy was really appreciated. Also special thanks to James for managing the arrivals during rush hour and to Martin and Yasko for arranging the donation from the Mayfair Chippy. It was an enjoyable evening for our guests, and your contributions were greatly appreciated. Thank you.

On Saturday January 24th at the London Jesuit Centre 81 guests were welcomed and treated to wonderful food from George Club, introduced by the chef himself (pictured here).

The atmosphere was relaxed and friendly, with everyone enjoying chilli con carne or, alternatively, creamed mushroom gnocchi, followed by a scrumptious-looking pumpkin cake, all lovingly served by an excellent team of 17 volunteers.

Many smiles and lots of thank-yous on the way out😀

The Inner Light Exhibition 2026

On 10 January 2026 an Exhibition of Sacred Art was held, presenting paintings and icons by Dr Irina Bradley, Yusef Hourani, Gabriel Lewis, and Alastair Dunston.

The exhibition was distinguished by the inclusion of a substantial body of icons painted by homeless and other vulnerable students from Dr Bradley’s Iconography class, a programme that has been running regularly on Mondays since the summer of 2025 with the support of Farm Street Church.

The class has been sustained through the hospitality of Cana Café & Lounge, which provides fresh and nutritious suppers for homeless and vulnerable participants, enabling them to engage in meaningful and contemplative artistic practice without anxiety about basic necessities. Cana Café & Lounge is pleased to contribute to a project that supports those who are disadvantaged in pursuing deeper and more purposeful activities.

The organisers and participants are to be warmly congratulated for conjuring a truly enchanting exhibition, notable not only for its artistic merit but also for its spirit of generosity and community.

A considerable sum was raised during the event and the accompanying raffle in support of St. Vincent de Paul and the CLCC homeless initiatives. Our most heartfelt congratulations!

On this past Wednesday, 60 guests were served with an excellent Indian influenced lunch, kindly provided in plentiful proportions by Annabels. We were also delighted to welcome Axel, the Annabel’s chef, who dropped in to see our operation. Lunch was greatly appreciated by our guests, many of whom enquired about the Christmas lunch on Saturday 20 December. Father Hugh had 8 guests for his Lectio Divina, a good number. As always, many thanks to our hard working volunteers all of whom we are hoping to see at our upcoming volunteers Christmas party.

A damp day did not deter our guests, who turned up in almost record breaking numbers for lunch: 83 all told. Not quite up to last Saturday’s magnificent total, but we were kept busy.

Before we started, John M delivered a well-received reflection on the homeless, and we greeted our new volunteer, Amanda.

Further highlights of the service included plentiful food (beef stew, pasta) from George’s Club, followed by a universally acclaimed apple crumble for pudding.

Then, to rousing cries of “please, no more”, the Farm Street Boy Band rehearsed that traditional Christmas ballad, “It’s a long way to Tipperary”).

Order was restored when we piled in to the delicious chocolate cake which Joyce baked and supplied.

In among the mayhem, Sab managed to deliver 13 haircuts, smashing last week’s record.

Thanks to all our volunteers who served that day with dedication and enthusiasm.

Last Saturday we started our lunch with a fine prayer from John M. Then the guests poured in, and kept pouring in throughout the service, with a queue that formed early and kept going. We served 86 altogether, assisted by two new volunteers, James and Vincent, who professed themselves delighted by how nice and welcoming the atmosphere was.

Claridges supplied their usual high quality chicken and vegetable dish, and Farm Street provided their dessert. Universal approval, and apart from the struggle of keeping up with the sheer press of the numbers with a slightly short team, it was a service that all seemed to enjoy hugely. Well done all, and God bless.
