“Scottish Women’s Aid have repeatedly raised concern that the lack of legal aid is leaving abused women trapped in violent relationships, unable to leave. Scott said: “It was disappointing that, despite talking about a new Legal Aid Bill, there is no commitment to fund the kind of legal services that we know are desperately needed.

“And one of the very biggest issues is women’s poverty, and nothing has been said about that. We must remember that women’s poverty means children’s poverty.” Mary Howden, of the Women’s Rights Network Scotland, said: “Making the Fund To Leave permanent is welcome.

“Women need practical help to get out. Stabilising multi-year funding for specialist organisations, and the commitment that victims should not face a postcode lottery, are also welcome.”

Similarly, the WRNS has exposed the horrifying numbers of s*xual offences in Scottish swimming pools and leisure centres, again, overwhelmingly occurring in mixed-s*x changing areas, and yet still they continue.
Single-s*x spaces are not the only solution to VAWG, but they were designed to legally help protect women from harm. And yet our public bodies and our politicians are still out of step, both in action and attitude.”

Responding to WRN Scotland on social media, Davies said: "This was not something that happened in the huge numbers of today, before mixed s*x changing villages. When men & women had separate changing rooms this is (& was) drastically safer for young women. Women safeguarding is being abolished".

Thank you Sharron Davies for highlighting our report and the massive safeguarding fail that mix- s*x changing areas are.

'Truly shocking' research by the Women's Rights Network Scotland found a litany of s*x offences were committed, many involving young girls aged between 13 and 16.

Our FOIs to Police Scotland, published today in The Sunday Post, show almost 100 s*xual crimes at swimming pools and leisure centres — including r**e, s*xual assault and 51 voyeurism offences.
81 female victims. 57 male perpetrators. Zero offences attributed to male staff.
11 offences involved girls under 13. More girls under 13 were among the additional victims.
Every recorded offence was at a venue with mixed-s*x, village-style shared changing. Not one was recorded at a centre with single-s*x facilities.
Councils cannot keep calling these spaces “safe” while girls are being filmed, and s*xually assaulted in them.
Local authorities must provide single-s*x changing, designated family spaces, proper risk assessments, and stop treating women’s and girls’ safety as secondary.
Changing areas have to change.

Pleased to see forwomen.scot at Holyrood’s Equalities Committee yesterday. After years of being treated as an inconvenience rather than a legitimate women’s rights group, Susan Smith was in the room.
Susan made the points that actually matter: collect s*x data properly, stop mixing s*x and gender in official stats, implement the laws we already have, and don’t pass another bill that collapses in court. “We have taken the Scottish Government to court several times” shouldn’t still need saying. But unfortunately it does.

But unfortunately it does.
Credit to Amanda Lindsay MSP for asking the direct question on statistics.

Less impressive was the usual scramble to change the subject rather than answer it.

The Invitation is progress. Now we need our politicians to listen. The committee now has no excuse for pretending it hasn’t heard what women have been saying
