PAINT THE THINGS YOU LOVE

David Hockney, has passed away at the age of 88. David was not only a celebrated and influential British artist, he was also a proud gay man, unapologetic in his incredible work. His one rule was 'paint the things you love'.

Today, we are saddened by his passing, but grateful for everything he gave to British art and q***r culture.

PRIDE YEAR 🏳️‍🌈

It may be the first day of pride month - but we’re proud all year long.

At a time of rising homophobia and transphobia, we’re asking LGBTQ+ people, allies and organisations to support q***r people, history and culture all year round - not just during Pride.

BE RIGHT BACK
UK AIDS Memorial Quilt Panel 23 is on a little holiday to Wakefield. 43 panels of the AIDS quilt are coming together for the first time outside of London from 4-7 June at Wakefield Exchange.

Behind the scenes of our team carefully de-installing the UK AIDS Memorial Quilt Panel 23. The panel is handled with immense care, honouring the lives stitched into this extraordinary piece of LGBTQ+ history. We're thrilled to see the quilt be in on display outside of London.

The quilt will be back on display at Q***r Britain from 11 June. If you visit us in the meantime, there will be visuals in its place.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY SIR IAN MCKELLEN 🎂

Born on 25 May 1939, Sir Ian publicly came out as gay in 1988 during a BBC Radio discussion protesting the UK government’s anti-LGBTQ+ Section 28 legislation. He later became a co-founder of Stonewall.

From acting to activism, his impact on q***r culture and LGBTQ+ rights continues to inspire us 🏳️‍🌈

Huge thank you to and Stefan Dickers for giving an incredible behind-the-scenes LGBTQ+ archives tour to our team 🌈

We saw everything from Q***r Britain badges and the newly restored first Switchboard log book, to a Rebel D***s bedframe, a rainbow “pulling jumper” worn at Heaven, and a 1941 diary from a gay man in Brixton signing off each entry: “Goodnight my sweet Doug”.

It was such a moving reminder that q***r history isn’t only made by figures like Oscar Wilde and Radclyffe Hall it’s made by everyday q***r lives.

INTERNATIONAL MUSEUM DAY
For this year’s theme from International Council of Museums is Museums Uniting a Divided World - recognising museums as places of learning, community and understanding.

And yet, there are currently only a handful of permanent, standalone LGBTQ+ museums worldwide with dedicated public spaces. These museums do more than preserve objects they preserve lives, stories and proof that q***r people have always existed.

At a time of increasing anti-LGBTQ+ rhetoric, q***r museums matter more than ever and deserve physical spaces where people can visit.

Thank you to all the LGBTQ+ museums preserving our histories and helping shape our futures 🖤
