Providing ‘Gentle Protest’ Craftivism (craft + activism) books, products & services worldwide 🪡✂️✨ A love of cross-stitching led her to Craftivism.

A true Craftivist uses craft as a tool for gentle activism aimed at influencing long-term change. Craftivist Collective was founded in 2009, when after years of marches, signing protests and working on campaigns for large charities, experienced activist Sarah Corbett had begun to doubt the effects of some conventional activism. The time felt right for a different, less aggressive approach. Its appeal, as a gentle, respectful and more targeted plea for social change was a perfect fit and although as a principle 'Craftivism' already existed, it took no time for Sarah to develop her own unique strand. One focused on putting the contemplative moments spent stitching to work, exploring global issues and using craft for critical thinking, questioning and considered creative activism. After struggling to find any Craftivism groups or projects to join, Sarah started creating her own and documenting them via her blog, 'A lonely Craftivist'. This blog soon became the 'Collective', as budding Craftivists all over the world discovered Sarah’s work and wanted to join in.

5 years on and with now thousands of members Craftivist Collective is thriving. A book release and contributions to many different of publications; 2 TEDx talks; countless workshops, product sales and many successful partnerships with Non Governmental Organisations, art organisations and universities have all helped carry its message to a global audience. Whilst worldwide project exhibitions and high profile collaborations, with the likes of cult jewellers Tatty Devine,V&A and Secret Cinema, have helped extend its reach beyond the normal bounds of activism. Stitch by contemplative stitch Craftivist Collective continues to thread activism through all it does, exposing the world's injustices and always striving to make people question how they can be part of the solution. 🧵 Creative Team Away Days ✂️

Meaningful offline time together.

Looking for something a little different for your next team away day?

I offer creative, thoughtful and completely offline sessions for small staff teams to step away from screens and day-to-day work, spend proper time together and leave feeling refreshed, connected and inspired.

Gathered around one table, we slow down, make something with our hands to take home, talk, think, learn and get to know each other beyond our usual work roles.

Depending on what would be most useful for your team, the focus can be simply enjoying doing something creative together, using craftivism to open up conversations about how you work and communicate, or exploring my Gentle Protest approach to being thoughtful, strategic and compassionate changemakers.

For purpose-led businesses, social enterprises and charities, I can also tailor the session around your mission and values.

Sessions can include an illustrated talk, Q&A, small-group activities, quiet reflection, thoughtful conversation and hand embroidery, accompanied by carefully chosen instrumental music. No craft experience needed, just an open heart and open mind.

For up to 20 people:

🧵 Full day

I can come to your workplace or join you at an away-day venue. I’m based in London and travel across the UK, and further afield where budgets allow.

These sessions work especially well for remote and hybrid teams who spend much of their working lives on screens and want to make the most of precious time together in person.

Recent sessions have included the all-male Tech Operations team at Octopus Energy at the beautiful The Art Workers' Guild in London, and fully remote digital agency William Joseph during one of their quarterly team days in Oxford.

I’d love to do more of these. They’re also a helpful income stream that subsidises some of my unpaid and low-bono Craftivist Collective and Gentle Protest work I do.

🍃✝️🌎 I work with people and organisations of all faiths and non in many different ways. As a practicing Christian I was honoured to be asked to give a Gentle Protest talk, two Craftivist Collecctive workshops and to be available for delegates from incredible Christian climate organisations across Europe who asked for my advice on how they could improve or broaden their climate activism impact in their churches, communities and coalitions in a way that does not burn them out or cause division & does inspire, empower and energise people to be positive Changemakers and live out their Chrisitan values of stewardship of our planet and protesting with love to those we disagree with in these challenging times.

💌 I was asked in advance to create a gift for each speaker to take home as a thank you and to encourage them in their climate work. I incorporated the ECEN logo, their conference image of a fern leaf & the organiser’s chosen Psalm verse (Anglican and Catholic) we reflected on throughout the conference days and nights: “Blessed are those who dwell in your house”.

🎤💚 We heard from incredible speakers including Tetiana Stawnychy CEO of Caritas on the incredible climate work they are doing in Ukraine🇺🇦 during this awful war. & the Vice President of the European Parliament and MEP for Romania🇷🇴 Nicolae Ștefănuță on how he puts his faith into action and challenged us to lovingly to be better lobbyists to MEPs by asking for more tangible actions they can implement and be held accountable for.

📵I’m logging off social media for the rest of the Summer. Escaping the algorithm. Reclaiming my attention. Choosing presence over posts. Touching grass 🌱

💝 I’ll still be packing up and physically posting Craftivist Collective books, kits and tools to customers around the world to help them with their offline gentle handmade protests.

🪡 🧵 I’ll be hand-stitching gifts for 12 European community leaders who I’ll be meeting at the end of August in Brussels at a climate justice conference I’ll be speaking at and delivering workshops at.

💪🤒 I’ll be recovering from severe anaemia, trying to regain my physical and mental strength.

💌 I’ll be crafting monthly newsletters to offer support and encourage connection through email interaction whilst also taking away our power from unethical Meta.

🤓 I’ll be writing my next book which needs deep focus away from social media feeds.

💔 I’m falling out of love with what social media has turned into. 😢 I need a break. Social media isn’t where I want to spend my energy right now.
