akt welcomes today's announcement from Prime Minister Andy Burnham of the Rough Sleeping Programme to end rough sleeping this Christmas. We're particularly encouraged by the inclusion of LGBTQ+ people in the guidance, acknowledging the unique challenges that both LGBTQ+ people and young people face that increase their risk of homelessness and make them less visible, creating additional barriers to long-term solutions.

We are encouraged to see these bold commitments and want to see them delivered; and while Christmas is an ambitious deadline, it's when many people in our community need us most and would be the perfect gift that could transform lives for the better.

Seeing our community show up with so much joy, love and determination at London Trans+ Pride this weekend, was something really special.

This year's theme, Our Future, Our Fight, is a reminder that while we've come so far, there's still more to do. At akt, over half of the young people we support are trans or non-binary, so we'll keep standing with our community and fighting for a future where every Trans+ young person has a safe place to call home.

Thank you to everyone who marched, organised and made history 💜

Happy London Trans+ Pride! 🏳️‍⚧️

Today is a celebration of trans+ joy, visibility and community.

London Trans+ Pride exists because trans+ people deserve to be seen, heard and protected, and because your rights are always worth marching for. As the world's largest demonstration in support of trans, non-binary, intersex and gender non-conforming people, it is both a celebration and a protest.

At akt, we're proud to stand alongside trans+ young people, not just today, but every day.

We know that 1 in 3 trans+ young people will experience homelessness, often because of family rejection or abuse. We also know that over half of the young people we support are trans+.

So celebrate trans+ joy, challenge transphobia, champion trans rights. And if you're able, help us house trans+ youth by providing a route to safe housing, life-changing support and a community where every young person can build the future they deserve.

Because freedom starts with a safe place to call home.

Happy Trans Pride. We'll keep showing up, marching alongside you and fighting for a future where every trans+ young person can thrive. 🏳️‍⚧️

🏳️‍⚧️ Are you ready for tomorrow London? 🏳️‍⚧️

Don't forget your SPF but most importantly don't forget it is all about showing up for trans+ people. Not just tomorrow, but every day.

At akt, over half of the young people we support are trans+. Many have experienced homelessness after facing rejection simply for being who they are.

This Trans+ Pride, celebrate with purpose. Help us House Trans+ Youth by providing routes to safe accommodation, life-changing support and a community where every young person can build the future they deserve.

Being a trans+ ally doesn't have to be complicated. It starts with listening, speaking up, and taking action.

Trans+ people deserve to live safely, be treated with dignity, and have access to the support they need. Yet 1 in 3 trans+ young people will experience homelessness, often because of family rejection or abuse.

Here's 3 ways you can stand with the trans+ community today:
🏳️‍⚧️ Listen to trans+ people and learn from their lived experiences.

✍️ Sign the Not In Our Name - NION Women & Good Law Project open letter calling on politicians, the media and public institutions to reject anti-trans rhetoric and be held accountable for the harm it causes. Visit Notinourname.org.uk.

🏡 House Trans Youth with akt. Together we can provide safe housing & vital support so that trans+ young people can build the future and community they deserve. Together we can make sure every Trans+ young person has a safe place to call home and be their authentic self. Link in the comments!

We were honoured to speak with longtime akt patron, the incomparable actor and activist: Ian McKellen.

Listen as Ian reflects on attending his first Pride in his late 40s; and the joy, acceptance and sense of belonging he found there.
He reminded us to focus our energy on the extraordinary number of people who come together to celebrate, support and uplift the LGBTQ+ community.

We couldn't agree more. Pride has always been about community, and there's real power in showing up for one another.

We welcome the new Prime Minister, Andy Burnham's pledge to end rough sleeping!

At akt, we see every day the barriers young people face when searching for safety and stability: with 86% of the young people we support having experienced street homelessness.

And while lasting change will take time, today's commitment gives us hope that we can finally end street homelessness for the young people still forced to choose between having a safe home and being who they are.

To make this ambition a reality though, services must recognise and respond to the unique needs of young LGBTQ+ people with nowhere else to go. Because at akt we know ending rough sleeping, means creating a system where every young person can access safe, inclusive support.
