Since 1965, Spitalfields Crypt Trust has supported people in recovery from addiction and homelessness in East London. Community started this charity, and community has kept it going.

Charity shops everywhere are having a hard time. Costs are up, fewer people are coming through the door, and with the rapid growth of online resale platforms, people are no longer donating quality items to charity.

This week, our Retail Director told the team at our Walthamstow shop that it is closing. Permanently. This was one of the hardest decisions we’ve had to make. The impact of closing this shop will be felt by many people, including our valued customers, our wonderful staff and volunteers .

So we’re asking our community to help us once more… Keep the Doors Open is our urgent appeal to raise £200,000 by the end of March. We’re acting now to keep our other doors open, including those of all our services.

Happy Friday! 🎨 We’re wrapping up another busy week at SCT and thought we’d share some of it with all of you.

A lot of this week has been focused on our annual art exhibition. This year we’re looking forward to hosting it with our friends at Kahaila on Brick Lane.

The exhibition is called ‘more human’ and focuses on celebrating process and progress: the beauty of becoming, and the courage it takes to show up messy and imperfect, one day at a time.

Although this year is a smaller, invite only gathering, we look forward to sharing more of the artworks with you in the coming weeks.
