Spitalfields Crypt Trust

Spitalfields Crypt Trust SCT - A local charity tackling addiction and homelessness since 1965.

“It is a hard time to be a charity.” A note from Dr Louisa Snow, CEO of Spitalfields Crypt Trust.

British public giving has dropped by £1.4 billion in one year. There are around six million fewer people giving than there were a decade ago. is really feeling that. With no direct government funding, we rely entirely on our charity shops, our small fundraising team, and most importantly on the support of our community. Generous donations from people like you.

The scale of the need will always be greater than what any one organisation can do. We try to reach every person we can, because we believe everyone deserves a chance at life beyond addiction and homelessness. As long as people need what we offer, we intend to be here.

What would you do with a million pounds? Why is empathy hard to generate empathy for people who experience addiction and homelessness?

A big thank you to The Vandervell Foundation for supporting Choices, our peer-led recovery community, this year.

Our annual trip to the beach came at exactly the right time, with last week's heatwave pushing temperatures up to 35 degrees. It meant a whole day out of the city, down by the sea.

Fish and chips were eaten, ice creams were demolished, parasols were chased down after a few strong gusts, and a friendly game of water football got surprisingly competitive.

Days like this give people the space to breathe, connect and just enjoy being together.

We are so grateful for the support we receive. What might feel like a simple charitable donation to some is, to our community, a real gift and a privilege.

Today was our annual volunteer BBQ — an event we love to host every year in honour of the people at the heart of our charity shops. Without them, none of it would be possible.

We enjoyed catching up with Russell to hear his insights on volunteering. If you’re looking for community in East London, this is a great way to find it.

No one chooses addiction.
No one chooses homelessness.
Recovery is always possible.

“I tried my best in Acorn House and my best was good enough.” 💙

We heard from a few of our graduates this evening and were reminded again who the real heroes in our community are. We’ve been here for 60 years creating space for people to build a life beyond addiction and find a home, but the real work belongs to the people who wake up every day and say yes to recovery, who show up and give their whole self to it.

A beautiful evening celebrating 60 years of recovery and the many people who have walked through our doors to reclaim their lives.

Thank you to The Choir with No Name London () for the brilliant songs, to Rev. Nat and St Barnabas for hosting us, and to everyone who contributed to making this evening a great success.

Tonight, we’re grateful for every single person who has been part of SCT.
