“I tried my best in Acorn House and my best was good enough.” 💙

We heard from a few of our graduates this evening and were reminded again who the real heroes in our community are. We’ve been here for 60 years creating space for people to build a life beyond addiction and find a home, but the real work belongs to the people who wake up every day and say yes to recovery, who show up and give their whole self to it.

A beautiful evening celebrating 60 years of recovery and the many people who have walked through our doors to reclaim their lives.

Thank you to The Choir with No Name London () for the brilliant songs, to Rev. Nat and St Barnabas for hosting us, and to everyone who contributed to making this evening a great success.

Tonight, we’re grateful for every single person who has been part of SCT.

Our volunteers are the heartbeat of our shops 🏆

Across our 11 shops in East London, volunteers give their time so that we can keep doing the work that matters: for SCT it's supporting people in recovery from addiction & homelessness.

The shops fund the services.
The volunteers run the shops.
That chain of impact starts with them.

We're enormously grateful, not just this week, but every week.

Thank you to Volunteers' Week for championing the millions of people across the UK who show up, week after week, for causes they believe in. Volunteering changes lives, including the volunteer's own.

And if you've ever volunteered for SCT, in any capacity, at any time — THANK YOU 💙 It has made a bigger difference than you might realise.

This is what we mean when we say we are a local charity, in the heart of East London.

Sixty years ago, a community of faith opened the doors of a crypt in Spitalfields and was born. We’re still here. Still showing up everyday.

To mark the end of our 60th anniversary year, we’re holding a Service of Thanksgiving on Sunday 7 June — and we’d love you to be there.

All are welcome. Please RSVP via the link in our bio 🔗

At SCT, community isn’t just a word — it’s what we’re built on.

Today, a group of people, from staff to volunteers and our wider community, are running the to raise money for people recovering from homelessness and addiction. 🏃🏾

Different journeys. One shared purpose.

We couldn’t be prouder of everyone taking part.

Want to cheer them on? We’ve linked their fundraisers in our stories. 💙

Addiction is a issue. Not a moral failing. Not a lifestyle choice. Not something people should just be able to simply stop by themselves. We’re adding our voice to the conversation this — you can read more about this on our blog. 🔗 in bio.

There’s a quiet contradiction at the heart of how we talk about mental health in this country.

We have — rightly — made significant progress in reducing the stigma around depression, anxiety, and other mental health conditions. We understand now that these aren’t character flaws. They aren’t the result of bad decisions or weak willpower. They are conditions that deserve compassion, treatment, community, and time.

And yet when it comes to addiction, something shifts.

Our Therapeutic Programme Manager has worked with people in recovery for years, and the observation is one that stays with you:

“In practice, addiction is often still seen as separate from mental health — and that separation is part of the stigma that the people we support face every day.”

This Mental Health Awareness Week, we’re adding our voice to that conversation. Read our latest blog — link in bio.
