British Veterinary Association - BVA

British Veterinary Association - BVA BVA is the national representative body for veterinary surgeons in the UK.

We guide our members throughout their careers, from student to retirement, with the support and knowledge they need to achieve their goals, and to speak up for them on the issues that matter most. We are the only UK veterinary association that looks after the interests of all vets in all disciplines. Our members are at the heart of everything we do and, with the power of more than 19,000 members behind us, we’re able to provide a voice to represent members and services to support them.

The veterinary profession has made significant progress in antimicrobial stewardship over the past decade and that's something to be really proud of.

Ten years of companion animal and equine sales data show that collective action across the sector has led to substantial reductions in antimicrobial use. But with ambitious new targets ahead, including a 30% reduction in antimicrobial use in dogs and cats over the next five years, there's still more to achieve.

That's why RUMA Companion Animal & Equine's focus on canine acute diarrhoea and cat bite abscesses/cat fight wounds is such an important next step. New resources to support veterinary practices will be launched at BVA Live, alongside a discussion in the BVA Interactive Zone on Friday 12 June.

Find out why this targeted approach matters and what it could mean for the future of antimicrobial stewardship in companion animal practice.
