Over the weekend, runner Darren Wood became the first person in the world to complete an incredible 1,000 parkruns.

That’s the equivalent of 118 marathons.

Huge congratulations to Darren, and to the parkrun team and volunteers who make it happen.

The National Lottery, through Sport England, is proud to support parkrun UK and the communities that bring it to life each week.

Walking football is bringing communities together this National Walking Month. ⚽️

Thanks to over £400k in funding from Sport England, alongside support from the FA, Age UK is helping older people across England get active again through local walking football sessions.

The initiative focuses on reaching those in more deprived areas and people living with long-term health conditions. Through this work, older people are building confidence, reconnecting with others and reducing feelings of loneliness.

The largest ever The National Lottery Community Fund single investment in Northern Ireland. 🎉

TNLCF has reached a new milestone by announcing £30 million of funding for the Together for Families project.

Together with the Department of Health NI and the Third Sector, who have matched this funding with £30 million, this project will make it easier for families to access early intervention support, before problems reach crisis point.

We’re looking forward to seeing the real difference this will have for families across Northern Ireland.

2026 is the National Year of Reading.

The biggest campaign of its kind in a generation is here to help more of us discover, or rediscover, a love of reading. 📚

Led by the Department for Education and the National Lottery-funded National Literacy Trust, it’s all about getting people reading for fun again.

The National Literacy Trust has received 22 grants, totalling over £7.75 million from The National Lottery to support projects of all shapes and sizes.

We’ll be sharing stories of their impact throughout the year.

Every week, Forget-me-not Chorus organises singing sessions for people with dementia and those who support them, in care homes, hospitals and in the community. 🎵

Their newest community choir has just launched in Llanelli, bringing the joy of shared song to people living with and alongside the condition.

The project has received funding through The National Lottery Community Fund thanks to National Lottery players, allowing families to join together through music.

This Endangered Species Day, we’re celebrating how National Lottery players have helped to protect some of the UK’s rarest wildlife 🐝🦔

Through The National Lottery Heritage Fund, almost £2bn in funding has been awarded to support more than 4,600 land, nature and biodiversity projects. This has helped programmes like Back from the Brink, who helped to protect endangered animals, plants and fungi from extinction. The project improved the outlook for nearly 100 threatened species and inspired thousands of people to take action for nature.
