What would help you to improve your anaesthetic practice?

Perhaps something small, such as a better understanding of the latest guidelines, or an idea you can take back to your department.

Or maybe something bigger. Learning how the latest research could influence the way we work. Thinking about how we prepare for new challenges in crisis care, obstetrics, ethics and the wider health service.

That’s what Annual Congress 2026 is about, brand new ideas, knowledge, and a chance to think about where anaesthesia is heading.

There’s just four weeks to go, so now’s the time to book your study leave and grab your ticket. Annual Congress takes place in Liverpool from 16–18 September, but you don’t have to commit to all three days. Join us for one, two or three days, depending on what works for you.

🌡️ Extreme heat is putting pressure on our health service. Healthcare must adapt.

The Met Office has issued an extreme heat warning, with temperatures reaching 38°C today. This is reportedly the fifth heatwave of the summer, with experts warning that summer 2026 could be on track to become the UK’s hottest on record.

As carbon emissions continue to warm our planet, hotter summers are becoming the new reality. For our members, the impact on healthcare is already clear. News reports are highlighting increasingly difficult working conditions across the NHS, as well as the risks to patients.
