🐾 Yesterday’s Animal Welfare Discussion Forum once again proved why it has become such an important cornerstone of the veterinary CPD calendar.

The day brought together thought-provoking discussions, challenging perspectives, and passionate voices committed to driving positive change in animal welfare.

From debating the realities of wildlife rehabilitation and rewilding, to exploring what “responsible pet ownership” really means, and questioning whether all animals are truly treated equally, the sessions encouraged meaningful reflection and open conversation across the profession.

A huge thank you to everyone who attended, contributed, and helped make the forum such a valuable and engaging event.

A very special thanks to our sponsors Hill’s Pet Nutrition, MWI Animal Health and Vet Partners for supporting the event.

We have partnered with BSAVA PetSavers to fund vital new research aimed at standardising non-traditional companion animals (NTCA) medicine.

The funding has been awarded to Dr Vicky Strong, whose project will explore what “day one readiness” in exotic animal medicine should look like and develop practical guidance to support the UK veterinary curriculum. The aim is to help new graduates feel more confident when treating these species from their first consultation.

BSAVA PetSavers has announced the recipient of their master's degree by research grant! 🔬

Jointly funded by the Animal Welfare Foundation UK, the chosen project will develop consensus and practical guidance to integrate exotic animal medicine into the UK undergraduate veterinary curriculum.

Led by Dr Vicky Strong at the University of Nottingham, the research will help ensure that NTCA medicine is taught to a consistent, appropriate standard, providing clarity to veterinary students and their employers on what knowledge and skills they should demonstrate upon graduation.
