Jangala Enabling internet access for people in need In the Jungle refugee camp in Calais, the Worldwide Tribe identified an urgent need for Wi-Fi.

Richard Thanki, Nils O'Hara and Samson Rinaldi set-up the first large Wi-Fi network in the Jungle, and are now using their experience in wireless communications, computing, refugee assistance and fabrication to develop low-cost, portable Wi-Fi solutions that can be used by anyone, anywhere, with no need for technical knowledge.

After the excitement of the FIFA World Cup 2026™, we wanted to give a special shoutout to one of our longest-standing funders: .

has supported Jangala since 2019, helping us get over 100,000 people online in communities around the world. Their support has directly enabled partners like CENET in Uganda to access reliable internet where it is needed most.

, the Official Technology partner of the FIFA World Cup 2026™, asked whether any of the communities they support through Jangala were able to use the internet to follow the games. Thanks to CENET, who recently shared this video with us, we can say yes! And it is wonderful to see connectivity helping people take part in moments of global excitement and shared joy.

CENET is a non-profit, non-governmental organisation providing education, community and healthcare services to refugees and young people. Through our Lenovo-supported project, they are able to bring internet access to their community, opening up opportunities for learning, communication, access to information, and connection.

Last night, Colombia took to the pitch at BC Place in Vancouver in front of a crowd of 52,000 people. Last year, Jangala helped over 52,000 people get online around the world.

Imagine everyone you can see in this image gaining access to education, healthcare, work opportunities, essential services and video calls with their families and friends. That's the scale of the impact our partners helped to create over the past year.

We were especially pleased to be cheering on Colombia because it's home to some of the many organisations we work alongside around the world, such as Fundación Tierra Grata.

Fundación Tierra Grata is a Colombian non-profit working with remote communities to deliver sustainable development projects and improve access to essential services. Together, we're helping bring reliable internet to communities where connectivity can open up opportunities, strengthen services and help people stay connected. Scroll along to see some pictures of them installing Jangala Wi-Fi at their Centro Educativo Indígena e Intercultural Semillas de Maíz site, a school that serves 120 students from the Nasa and Yanacona indigenous communities.

Colombia is just one of 38 countries where Jangala has supported connectivity projects so far, and we're incredibly proud of every partner helping make that possible.

57% of people told us their wellbeing improved.

Simply because they had reliable internet at home.

Over the past 6 months, through our Digital Inclusion Innovation Fund project, we connected more than 1,550 people living in temporary and supported accommodation across the Midlands using our Get Box devices.

The results show that digital inclusion is about far more than getting online.

📈 Access to essential services nearly doubled (33% → 64%).

📚 The number of parents who found it easy to support their children's education increased from 4% to 70%.

⏱️ People saved an average of 2.7 hours every week and £9 each month thanks to reliable internet access.

For many of us, internet access is something we rarely think about. But for people facing digital exclusion, it can mean accessing healthcare, applying for jobs, staying connected with loved ones, supporting children's learning, and navigating everyday life.

For Jangala, those two days have always been connected.

We were founded in - and our name comes from - the ‘Jungle’ refugee camp in Calais. When our founders designed and built the first Wi-Fi network in the camp, they saw how connectivity and communication can empower displaced people and the organisations looking to support them. Wi-Fi means education, Wi-Fi means opportunity, Wi-Fi means connecting with family and friends.

From these beginnings our work has expanded in scale and scope. We developed our first product, Big Box, specifically to support organisations looking to connect refugee populations. Working initially across Europe, our projects have expanded in recent years to Africa, Asia and South America. Our work today supports schools, clinics, peacebuilding and community projects, and emergency responders and we have connected 175,000 people over 38 countries.

However, supporting displaced people, whose number is larger than at any time in human history, remains central to our mission. We have connected people affected by displacement and conflict across 4 continents and we are proud signatories of UNHCR’s Connectivity for Refugees pledge.

So on this day, we would like to thank everyone who has supported our work, the partners that have helped hone our technology and programmes, and the amazing people who may today be refugees, but tomorrow will be our neighbours and friends. We are all connected and we are all one family.

Inside Bidibidi refugee settlements, 15 refugee children with hearing impairments are struggling to access meaningful education due to the lack of inclusive learning support and trained teachers. Although they attend school alongside other children, many are unable to follow classroom lessons and often rely only on what is written on the blackboard.

Without immediate support, these children face the risk of being left behind academically and socially, limiting their opportunities for growth, independence, and a better future.

The Refugee Voice is launching an urgent fundraising campaign to raise USD 10,000 to support the relocation and enrollment of these children into schools that provide inclusive education, trained teachers, and specialized learning support suited to their needs.

The support raised will help provide:
✅ Enrollment into inclusive and supportive schools
✅ Access to trained teachers and specialized educational support
✅ School fees, scholastic materials, and learning resources
✅ A safe and empowering learning environment for vulnerable refugee children

For children living in refugee settlements, education is more than a classroom experience — it is protection, dignity, hope, and the foundation for a better future. By supporting this initiative, you are helping ensure that children with disabilities are not excluded from the opportunity to learn and thrive.

Laptops are set-up, the printer is on and there's Wi-Fi in the room at Aion Health SL's new digital training space in Sierra Leone.

Check out this preview of Big Box in its new home in Shellmingo, sent to us by the Aion Health team.

Aion Health operate a mobile health clinic, as well as running a public health surveillance system, which also supports waste management tracking. They also deliver training to girls, women, and youth, including on digital health and entrepreneurship

Today we want to say a big thank you to our corporate partner Arm, who have been a key driver of Jangala’s technical progress over the last five years.

In partnership with Arm, we’ve made huge strides in our product development whilst improving our key systems, which has enabled life-changing connectivity for thousands of people in under-served communities around the world.

Over the coming year, our partnership will unlock the final steps we need to take to launch Big Box V1 – our most advanced, resilient and sustainable connectivity solution yet, offering fully off-grid connectivity to support global education, healthcare and disaster response at scale.

We can’t wait to engage with Arm on this next phase of our journey and connect with other global Arm partners who need resilient internet solutions.

🛜 Free Digital Connectivity Opportunity: Ealing and Brentford!

Are you a community group or organisation looking for a practical solution to support digitally excluded people in the Ealing and Brentford area?

Jangala is a London based charity which provides our ‘plug and play’ connectivity solution, Get Box, to organisations looking for a solution to support people who don’t have access to the internet.

The Get Boxes provide 12 months of free Wi-Fi to those who are digitally excluded without any cost to the end user. To date, we’ve distributed over 5,000 boxes across the UK, connecting more than 20,000 people.

🤝 We are looking for partner organisations, such as community groups, education and youth initiatives, libraries, charities, foodbanks, to help us distribute these Get Boxes in Ealing and Brentford. We’ve seen Get Boxes make a significant positive impact for:
🏠 Families in temporary or precarious housing.
📉 Individuals living on low incomes.
🏘️ Small communal spaces providing essential community services
