Last month we had the chance to spend time with one of our brilliant partners, Mojatu Foundation and Youth Future Lab 💛

Together they’ve set up Best ICT in the Kenyan Highlands, an education centre bringing digital skills to a rural community in Kenya. It was great to see their work up close, meet the team, and understand just how much of a difference reliable connectivity can make to their day-to-day operations.

Our Big Box will soon be supporting the centre, helping more people get online, learn new skills, and access opportunities that were previously out of reach.

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿It is Mobile Libraries Day today in Scotland, and a chance to celebrate a fantastic new Jangala collaboration with The Scottish Library & Information Council to pilot portable Wi-Fi onboard mobile libraries using Jangala ‘Big Boxes’.

This is part of Jangala’s Our Community Wi-Fi programme funded by Virgin Media.

The programme aims to help tackle the digital divide in the UK by providing public Wi-Fi - or ‘community Wi-Fi’ - to hub spaces where people congregate to connect, and seek support, and access to vital services.

It is a lightweight, briefcase-sized device that transforms any form of internet connectivity into reliable and scalable Wi-Fi, making it easy to connect from a handful of users to hundreds while ensuring better network distribution.
We have 11 Big Boxes available for distribution this November to NGOs across Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania. Jangala is a not for profit and covers the costs of the equipment, delivery and stays available for remote support for as long as you need the box.

We’re thrilled to be working with Newcastle City Council and Virgin Media O2 to support efforts to improve digital inclusion in the North East.

As part of the Council’s Get Online Newcastle programme, 30 of Jangala's Get Boxes have been installed in communal areas of social housing across the city - providing free Wi-Fi to over 1,000 residents. The initiative supports people in accessing essential services, developing digital skills, and staying connected.

It’s part of our broader effort to address the digital divide, and to ensure that access to the internet - and the opportunities that come with it - is available to everyone.

Thank you to the VMO2 engineers who volunteered their time to make this possible, and to Dame Chi Onwurah MP for her support, we completely agree with her, this initiative is “absolutely fantastic” - and we’re proud to be a part of it.

📚💜 A Big Box. A library. A lot of possibilities.

Stratford Library is now home to one of our Big Boxes, bringing reliable community Wi-Fi to one of Newham’s busiest public spaces.

Deployed through our Our Community Wi-Fi programme in collaboration with our partner Virgin Media O2, Big Box is already making a difference, supporting digital skills sessions, reducing barriers to learning, and offering fast, stable connection where public Wi-Fi often falls short.

The team at Newham Council have seen first-hand how connectivity transforms lives. From refugees in temporary accommodation using Get Boxes, to residents accessing essential services in shared spaces, and how mobility and access matter.

In Old Trafford, the team at St John’s Centre have been supporting their community for over four decades. From English classes and warm meals to cost of living support, they show up, week after week, for the people who need it most.

By giving out Get Boxes with laptops, they’re helping people stay connected.

People waiting on refugee status need to attend court hearings, contact solicitors, apply for support and continue studying. For them, having portable, reliable internet is essential.

Our Community Wi-Fi programme has officially launched, with our first deployment now up and running. 🎉

This is a big step in our mission to tackle digital exclusion in all its forms. Whether it’s families without internet at home, young people needing access to online learning, or community groups running vital services, everyone deserves to be connected.

We’re partnering with schools, education charities, NHS trusts, local councils, refuges, and digital inclusion organisations to make this happen.
