Highlights from our recent conference 🤩

On Saturday 18th July 2026, over 100 aspiring dentists, dental students and dentists joined us at at the Royal College of Surgeons building for our Specialties in Dentistry Conference.

The day was designed to make specialty training more tangible. The day included:
- Panel discussions with eight Black dental specialists
- Hands-on workshops across multiple specialties
- Networking with peers and clinicians
- Talks on financial planning, technology & innovation, and mental health & wellbeing

This conference was shaped by our community. After surveying Black dental students and dentists, we found that 66.6% didn’t feel informed enough about specialty training, and 66.6% said representation would influence their decision to pursue it.

Everything about the day was intentionally designed to respond to these findings.

✨WE INVITED 17 ASPIRING DENTISTS TO VOLUNTEER AT OUR CONFERENCE ✨

At Budding Black Dentists, supporting the next generation of dentists starts before dental school.

That’s why we intentionally opened up volunteering opportunities at our Specialties in Dentistry Conference to aspiring dentists, giving them the chance to spend the day surrounded by dental students, dentists and specialists at different stages of their careers.

Alongside helping us bring the conference to life, our volunteers were able to gain exposure to different areas of dentistry, build their networks and experience a side of dentistry they may not get to see through work experience.

Here’s what a few of our aspiring dentist volunteers had to say about their experience on the day.

Intravenous conscious sedation is used across several dental specialties including Special Care Dentistry, Oral Surgery and Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, to help patients receive treatment safely and comfortably.
