May 12th is the anniversary of Florence Nightingales birth. We must take a moment to express our deepest gratitude to all nurses for the extraordinary hard work and care contributions. You are the heart of healthcare, caring with kindness, patience, and strength in sometimes challenging times. We must thank you all for your dedication to cardiothoracic patients, providing care and compassion at their most vulnerable moments.

Daisy Sandeman, Clinical Nurse Manager with NHS Lothian, has been awarded the Inspiring Excellence – Nursing Innovation and Research Award at the Royal College of Nursing Scotland Nurse of the Year Awards last month. A fantastic achievement and well deserved recognition of her leadership, dedication, and innovative contribution to nursing practice. Well done, Daisy, on this outstanding win.

SCTS is delighted that Mr. Pala B. Rajesh, Consultant Thoracic Surgeon (retired), Birmingham formerly of Birmingham Heartlands Hospital and a former Vice President of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh was invited by the Ministry of Health, Malta for the 350th anniversary of the school of anatomy and surgery celebrations. He was awarded the 350th Anniversary Medal by the Health Minister Mr. Jo etienne Abela, a fellow of RCS Edinburgh in recognition for his vast contributions to surgery and graduate examinations in Malta.
