📢 PIP UPDATE: What does the latest Timms Review tell us?

The most-recent (September) update sets out proposals for improving PIP—but these are NOT final recommendations or new rules already in force.

The proposals include:

✅ Fewer unnecessary award reviews for people with lifelong or degenerative conditions where improvement is not expected.

✅ A clearer PIP application form and better recognition of fluctuating conditions.

✅ Better use of supporting evidence and lessons learned from Mandatory Reconsiderations and appeals.

✅ Access to advocacy for people who struggle to explain how their disability affects them.

✅ A review of the implementation and guidance surrounding the 28-day hospitalisation rule.

What about cash payments?

The review says cash should remain the foundation of PIP and the benefit should remain non-means-tested. However, it is also exploring services and other non-cash support as part of some future awards.

These ideas are still being tested, with the final report expected this autumn. There is no confirmed implementation date in this update.

At PIP HELP CIC, our Non-Profit organisation welcomes proposals aimed at improving fairness, dignity and decision-making. We will scrutinise the final recommendations carefully, particularly how any future assessment system would affect entitlement and award amounts.

The person who received this wonderful news was originally turned down for PIP by the DWP.

Like so many people, they were faced with the stress and uncertainty of a decision that they felt didn’t reflect the difficulties they were living with. They approached our Non-Profit organisation for support with their appeal - and we have recently received news that has made such a difference. ❤️

Letters like this are the reason we continue doing what we do.

Behind every appeal is a real person who deserves to be listened to, understood and supported. If you’ve been turned down for PIP, please don’t assume that this is necessarily the end of the road.
