Congratulations to Bronek Masojada who was elected the 698th Lord Mayor of the City of London. The ancient ceremony that spans centuries, took place yesterday at Guildhall.

Bronek succeeds the Lady Mayor Dame Susan Langley DBE, taking office at the Silent Ceremony at Guildhall on 13 November. During his mayoralty he will continue the work of successive Lord Mayors in connecting talent and capital with opportunity.

Representing our Livery at the Election was our Master Lucia Di Stazio, Past Masters Ken Pepperrell and Andy Williamson and Liveryman Ben Giddings.

We wish Bronek and all the civic team the very best during their year in office.

On Sunday Freeman Andrew Miller from TIMCO represented Worshipful Company of Builders’ Merchants at the 2026 Sheep Drive on Southwark Bridge, carrying a hand crafted shepherd's crook made in Holmfirth.

A long-established charity event, the Sheep Drive celebrates a Freeman’s ancient 'right' to bring sheep to market over the Thames, toll free, all to raise funds for The Woolmen Charity and The Lord Mayor's Appeal.

We are happy to report that both the weather and the sheep behaved impeccably!

An early 5am start this morning for our Master Lucia Di Stazio and Consort Mike Tattam as they joined the Lady Mayor and Consort, Sheriffs and Consorts, and other Livery Companies to see the convoy of over 120 London cabs depart for the annual Children's Magical Taxi Tour to Disneyland Paris.

Our Livery proudly sponsors this special occasion, which gives children with life-threatening illnesses the trip of a lifetime. An occasion that also emphasises the special work of Livery Companies in supporting important causes.

Every year since 1994, the convoy of London taxis and support staff have taken children and families on the three-day trip, organised by the Worshipful Company of Hackney Carriage Drivers.

A huge congratulations to Phoebe Prince from Frank Key Group, who was named ‘Best Performing Student – IoBM Diploma in Merchant Management’ at the Builders Merchants Federation - BMF Annual Members’ Conference Awards Dinner last week. 👏

We were delighted to sponsor the award, which was presented to Phoebe by our Master, Lucia Di Stazio, as part of an evening celebrating some of the brilliant people and businesses working across the building materials sector.

For us, supporting this award is about more than recognising one fantastic achievement. Helping people develop their skills, build their confidence and progress their careers is a big part of what our Company is here to do.

Through our Training and Education Fund, we offer grants of up to £2,000 to support people looking to improve their skills and qualifications, whether they are already building a career in the sector or are just starting out. It’s one of the practical ways our Livery can give something back to the industry and help develop the people who will shape its future.

Well done, Phoebe - a thoroughly deserved achievement and we hope the first of many!

A week ago today, our Master Lucia Di Stazio hosted our Company’s annual Court Consorts & Guests’ Luncheon at The Furniture Makers' Company. This event acknowledges the work and support of Master and Livery Consorts and expresses thanks and gratitude for their involvement and input.

The occasion also celebrated the admission of three new Freemen to our Livery, Gordon Banks, Neil Robinson and Barry Shorrock - and the birthday of Past Master Alan Hawkins, so it was quite an afternoon!

A huge thank you to our Guest speakers, Shrieval Consorts Elspeth Hughes-Penney and Kevin Bradford, who delivered fantastic speeches reflecting on their year as Consorts to Aldermanic Sheriff of the City of London, Robert Hughes-Penney, and Sheriff and Deputy Keith Bottomley CC respectively. Elspeth also provided insight into the work of the Sheriffs' & Recorder's Fund, which is a London-based charity our Livery Company supports that focuses on the rehabilitation of prison leavers and their families.

Last night a group from the Worshipful Company of Builders’ Merchants including Consort Mike Tattam, Past Masters Andy Williamson and Chris Bence, Liveryman Chris Hayward and Freeman Kevin Williams and their guests were delighted to attend the Sheriff’s Ball in the aid of the Lord Mayor’s Appeal charity.

The amazing Brazilian Beach Ball was a riot of colour, music and joy, and we were particularly proud to add to the colour by wearing yellow in honour of and the Maddie Rose Foundation.

Our Company, represented by the Master’s Consort Mike Tattam, was among over 30 Livery Companies joining this year’s Livery Halls Walk on Monday 7 September.

Visiting 40 Livery Halls across the City, the annual walk spanned 8+ miles raising money for the Lord Mayor’s Appeal.

This year’s walk was particularly special as it celebrated 20 years since it was first introduced in 2006 by The Worshipful Company of Environmental Cleaners.

A huge well done to everyone involved and to the Halls that opened their doors. A very enjoyable day, and most of all, raising money for great causes.

Our Consort Mike Tattam recently had the opportunity to fly with the RAF as part of an auction prize he won from the Mark Long Trust - an organisation that Worshipful Company of Builders’ Merchants is proud to support.

Here, Mike is pictured in the Grob Perfect plane - a two-seater, low-wing training and aerobatic aircraft - on the day of his flight, which was carried out at RAF Barkston Heath.

The Mark Long Trust helps disadvantaged individuals build confidence through aviation experiences, and was established in the name of RAF Battle of Britain Memorial Flight (BBMF) Squadron Leader Mark Long.

Four new Freemen were admitted to the Worshipful Company of Builders’ Merchants (WCoBM) at a ceremony on 2 July 2026, taking the total number of Liverymen and Freemen to 263. They are:

- Andy Griffiths of Boys and Boden
- Andrew McLellan of JW Grant
- David Pattison of Robert Price (Builders' Merchants) Ltd
- Owen Thorogood of PPW - Principality Plastics Warehouse.

The new Freemen were admitted as part of a special ceremony at Cutlers’ Hall.

Master Lucia Di Stazio CMRS comments: “It is a real pleasure to welcome new Freemen to the Livery and I congratulate them all. WCoBM represents key figures from across the building materials sector and our growing membership contributes greatly towards supporting the work of our Company, which includes philanthropy, investing in future talent and making a positive difference through our charitable donations.”
