Almost 90 Liverymen, Freemen and guests from the Worshipful Company of Builders’ Merchants travelled to Paestum in southern Italy for this year’s Master’s Weekend.

Hosted by Master Lucia Di Stazio and Consort Mike Tattam, the trip brought everyone together for four days focused on strengthening friendships, professional relationships and connections across the building materials industry.

Our latest blog looks back at the trip, the importance of the Master’s Weekend tradition, and why spending time together away from the pressures of day-to-day business still matters so much within our industry and the livery movement.

On Thursday 21st May, a wonderful group of Liverymen, Freemen and their partners joined our Master, Lucia Di Stazio, and Consort Mike Tattam for a truly memorable trip to discover the real Italy.

With almost 90 guests travelling together, the weekend was packed with unforgettable experiences, from exploring extraordinary ancient temples and historic castles to visiting inspiring locations in and around Paestum and Salerno, close to the stunning Amalfi Coast.

A particular thank you to both our Master and Mike for the tremendous organisation behind the trip, and for being such wonderful hosts throughout. It was a truly memorable experience that we won't forget for a very long time.

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make it such a special occasion, full of friendship, laughter and lasting memories.

We’ve shared a gallery of images from the trip on our website, so you can relive some of the highlights. And you'll also be able to download a .zip file of the full collection of images.

What a wonderful Master’s Weekend we’ve had so far! More than 80 Liverymen, Freemen and guests have joined the Master Lucia Di Stazio and Consort Mike Tattam in Paestum, Italy to explore olive gardens, see amazing ancient temples and have an incredible time with friends.

So far we’ve had an incredible evening at the Mec Paestum hotel, enjoyed a guided tour of the Paestum - Zona Archeologica, visited a Buffalo farm to learn how buffalo mozzarella is made, and had a truly wonderful afternoon of wining, dining and dancing in a magical olive grove.

And there’s a whole other day to go tomorrow!

Today a group of Liverymen, Freemen and their guests visited the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight (BBMF) at RAF Coningsby to learn about the amazing work the BBMF does in keeping historic planes such as the Lancaster, Chipmunks, Hurricanes, Spitfires and Dakotas operational and flying.

We are privileged to be affiliated with the BBMF and to be able to play a small part in helping with their vital work. Thank you to everyone who took the time to show us round today!

At our Election Court General last Tuesday evening, our Master Lucia Di Stazio welcomed six new Liverymen to our Company with a special Installation ceremony: Simon Fleet, Ben Giddings, Louise Williams, Josephine Crowe, Kevin Moran and Jamie Pilbin. Congratulations to you all on this special occasion.

The annual event is also an important occasion when our new Master and Officers are formally elected for the ensuing year: Kevin Fenlon, Steve Durdant-Hollamby, Julian Milligan and Ravinder Singh Sumal.

The Election Court General was followed by a reception and dinner at Armourers Hall with our Court Assistants, Liverymen and special guests, including Principal Guest Lt. Col Jon Bowman from our military affiliation 3PWRR (Third Battalion The Princess of Wales' Royal Regiment) who provided great insight into the work of the Army Reserves.

On Friday 20th March our Master Lucia Di Stazio and Consort Mike Tattam attended the 2026 United Guilds Service at St Paul's Cathedral, joined by Immediate Past Master Steve Boyer, Pauline Boyer, our Clerk Lady Jane Hilliard, James Hasler and new Liveryman Neil Woods.

The United Guilds Service is a prestigious annual religious service that brings together representatives from all 110+ Livery Companies and Guilds of the City of London. It is attended by the Lord Mayor of London, the Bishop of London, Sheriffs, the Court of Aldermen, and was first held back in 1943, during the Second World War. It was established as a joint initiative by the "Twelve Great Companies" to lift the spirits of the City following the destruction of the Blitz in 1940-41.
