Our thoughts on Government changes to ID checks 🗞️

New legislation allowing customers to use digital IDs to purchase alcohol in pubs, clubs and shops is set to be introduced next year.

🎙️“This additional way of carrying ID could be more convenient and reduce the risk of customers losing key ID documents when enjoying a night out."

🗣️Today the BBPA joined HM Treasury to discuss reforms to business rates.

Reform must happen quickly and deliver on a Manifesto commitment to rebalance the system and support pubs.🍻

⬇️Read our response below.

A BBPA spokesperson said: "Brewers and pubs pour billions into the economy and support more than a million jobs but are up against a raft of business costs and punitive tax rates that undermine growth and block investment.

📢The Christmas season is in full swing as the beer and pub sector looks set to pour £3.3bn into the UK economy.

With 300 million pints set to be sold, the industry continues to deliver for the UK economy, and a distinct lack of support means pubs still only make pennies in profit for every pint sold.🍺

With it's importance to the economy clearer than ever, it is vital that the Government steps up and supports brewers and pubs by reforming business rates.⬇️

🗣️Our CEO Emma McClarkin is in Parliament today meeting with MPs to discuss all things beer and pubs.

No matter the issue, from EPR, to NICs, and to Business Rates, it is important that MPs are made aware of the challenges facing the industry.

We were pleased to meet with Richard Holden MP to discuss the issues that matter most to the industry🍻

Take a look back at our story last week on how no/low options are booming in popularity. 👇

A no/low threshold of 0.05% is stifling UK brewers and preventing them from flourishing.

Therefore, it is vital that the Government takes steps to align these with other markets where thresholds are 0.5%. This will help us drive growth and boost the UK economy, and allow pubs to continue being a welcoming and inclusive space for everybody. 🍻

The increasing range of options for drinkers means the pub is "even more inclusive and welcoming than ever before this festive season", the British Beer and Pub Association (BBPA) said.
