Thanks to One Dance UK for featuring our Stronger Together project! Free classes for women on Thursday and Friday mornings x

FREE world dance classes for women from Movema! 💃

The Stronger Together project is back at Squash Cafe (112-114 Windsor Street, L8 8EQ) every Friday 9am-10am in July with Maxine Brown.

The project is about creating safe and creative spaces for women of different backgrounds to express themselves, improve their health & wellbeing and reduce isolation and develop their skills.

These inclusive free community classes are for women seeking asylum and refugees, women with mental health illness, low-income/ single-parent/ carer families and local women who would benefit from these sessions.

Maxine has a wealth of experience as a community dance leader and specializes in African and Caribbean dance and somatic movement.

They support participants with travel expenses and also provide refreshments.

For more info contact [email protected] or phone (Tues - Thurs 10am - 4pm) - 07548365869

Introducing our compere Rozey Din a local business owner and a proud Citizen of the World.
Rozey is delighted to be at 'Celebrate With Me' to introduce and guide us through the incredible festival line-up.

'I am also the proud daughter of an immigrant; my father moved to the UK in the 1950s. Growing up with both Pakistani and British heritage has given me a deep appreciation for the richness that different cultures bring to our communities.

I am incredibly excited to celebrate our local community and one of my favourite things about being a Bristolian: the belief that everyone is welcome. Bristol is a city where people from all backgrounds can belong, and where we recognise that we have far more that unites us than divides us.'

You can also follow Rozey's journey and the work of her Montessori nursery on Instagram: .

Join us at Africa Oyé (Official) for a joyful celebration of movement, belonging and community, as we perform Taking Flight: The Homecoming.

Come and see the Peacock, Liver Bird and Feng Huang help the Sankofa bird to find a new home!

Inspired by the migration stories of our artists and the communities we work with, ‘Taking Flight: The Homecoming’ brings together professional dancers and a very special community flock in a powerful outdoor performance using 4 symbolic birds and featuring ‘The Nest’, a brand new sound installation / stage concept!

This is a performance for everybody, and we’d love to share it with you.

📍 Find us at the Family Zone, Movema Dance Tent, Africa Oyé.

✨ We’re delighted to have the wonderful Kathilat as an Ambassador for this year’s 'Celebrate With Me' festival! ✨

When Kathilat resettled in the UK, she received incredible support from charities and individuals. Inspired by that kindness, she now gives back to the community through volunteering and helping others as a way of expressing her gratitude.

As part of her Ambassador role, Kathilat has been visiting local community spaces, spreading the word about the festival and sharing her enthusiasm for the event.

Join us at the bandstand at 2.45pm, where Kathilat will be sharing an insight into her Nigerian heritage through traditional dress, a poem, and a demonstration of dance movement.

We can't wait to celebrate with her and learn more about the rich culture she brings to our festival.

Free event suitable for people of all ages and backgrounds.

Why is it important to share cultural dances?

We asked some of the artists involved in Dances of Diaspora! why sharing these traditions matter, and their answers highlight the power of dance to preserve heritage, build understanding, and bring communities together.

Dance carries stories, history, identity, and connection across borders and across generations… and sharing that with others is something truly powerful 🧡
